IM in Maryland right now But we are from Texas and are moving back to Texas in June.  My son entered the Navy in Texas too.  My son didn't tell me too much on what is happening or what he is doing in his letter.  But I can imagine. :)
I am in Houston, Texas, Ann.

The test my Son did not pass was the DEP P/T test for his E2.  He took the written portion during DEP and this was the second part.  He said the run, kicked his butt.  I gave him a question and answer page and he sent it back.  He enjoys the food.  He said it is very good.  He has not said anything or any complaints about anyone in his Division.  Thats good.  He did say he is making lots of new friends.  He is still having some trouble making his bunk and folding clothes.  Hopefully they are all helping each other out. Maybe someone can give him a few pointers.

I'm sure that by now the SR's are learning that they have to work as a team and as such have to help others who are needing a little extra. I haven't heard anything from my son re: the clothes and bed, but I know for a fact that they were not his strong suits while at home. :>)

I'm so glad to hear you  say that he was making lots of friends though, I find that encouraging.

I "got" my letter read to me last night and my SR sounded in pretty good spirits but for some reason has only gotten 1 letter so far. Hopefully that has changed since he wrote that 1 on the 27th of Feb. He said they were "crazy busy" and didn't have a lot of time to write.

Here is another note about their letter writing. As you know, they only have so much personal time to get things done. (shower, sleep, write and socialize) If your SR is one that socializes, they may choose to spend some time visiting and that also will take away from their writing time.

So far, my son has written me a few times, his grandma, and his dad. I am certain that he is getting notes out to his friends. In his last letter he did tell me that he gave the extra letter I gave him to a "buddy" that was having a hard time. So I know that he must be making some friends too. He also passed his swim test which he said was a breeze. He was always a water baby. He told my mom that he did not pass his PFA. but he did say that he was getting all "buff" Hahaha! I can't wait to see him!!

You all have a fabulous day!

Traci - I am so happy that you were able to have a letter read to you. It is so special to hear from them.

It really is, isn't it? Such a simple thing but it just makes my day. My son also said he passed the swimming part and that he had passed the PFA. And I'm so glad for him because he had really been working hard to get into "Navy shape" for at least a year. He's not a runner and that was the part that he was most concerned with so I am very happy and proud of him!

What do you mean by "extra" letter? I think I read in one of your earlier notes that you were writing to some that weren't getting letters? How do you do that? (of course, I've been writing and my own son has only gotten 1 so far :>)  I would like to send a cards to those who may not have the support that our kids have.

Thanks Ragdoll and hope everyone has a great Friday!

What a great idea...hadnt thought about sending cards or notes to other SR's that dont receive letters...I too would like to know in general what you write.

Hi Traci,

Yes, I started early on writing an extra letter for my son to hand out to anyone that he felt needed a boost. My goal was to make sure that anyone that was not getting letters, could have a note to say that I care what you are doing, I am proud of you, and I thank you for standing next to my son. I have learned that there are so many young people serving our country that do not have anyone to support them and feel left out when mail call comes and they don't get to hear their name. My boyfriend (ex-Navy) told me that there were men who ordered subscriptions to magazines just to be able to hear their name at mail call. I just wanted to try to help a little. A lot of other mothers have the same goal and have started letter writing campaigns to SRs that do not receive mail. It is a good thing to do and I encourage you all. I feel great having known that I added a lift in someone else's day.  :0)

Well, what do you know?  He wrote me a letter!  Not sure how to take it, though.  He seems more frustrated than anything.  His Chief keeps telling him he should have been a Seal.  Well....he wanted to but, due to circumstances beyond his control, his run time was 12 seconds slow.  So I think he is really just frustrated with that.  Really frustrated.  It doesn't help to keep hearing that he should be in the group that he really WANTED to be in.

Mumzie, That is too bad.  Well, hopefully someday down the road he will be able to transfer into SEALS..My son is also having some difficulty with the run.  He put more emphasis in his training prior to BC on sit ups and push ups.  He was not too worried about the run.  Hopefully the daily PT will work up the endurance to meet all goals.

Interesting note:  My son told his grandmother that he is making friends but, stated that you are better off keeping to yourself.  You don't get caught up in any trouble.  This coming from a very social kid.  He is really trying to fly under the radar and not draw any unnecessary attention to himself. ( Maybe one day he could be on Survivor he might win a million ).

I also sent a letter to an SR who might not be receiving mail or having bad day.  Hoping to put a smile on someones face.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and maybe we will be given an extra special gift by hearing their voices this weekend.

I am hoping for a phone call too, nurse.

Ha! I win! Even though I don't know your son, I just knew he would write to you! I am glad that he wrote and I am sorry to hear he is frustrated. I am sure that it is not too late if he chooses to go towards the seals. Either way, I bet he will find the right fit for him and accelerate in whatever he chooses.

Glad you got a letter! Have a great weekend!
