Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Baby left for bootcamp from Los Angeles on 3/7/11
If my son can handle it, I should be able to do the same, right?
It's his first time out from home but he seems to be taking it much better than me. I can't wait to start receiving letters. He was never the gushy type and it would actually be fun to see even just a line or two. I know it's a long ways from bc graduation but it's all I am looking forward to right now.

My nephew arrived at BC on 3/8 and is on the same ship as your son. My sister received her box on Friday 3/11 but no letter yet. And yes, hang in there!!!!

Just received "the box". I couldn't get myself to open it so I had my dh do it. We looked inside and I couldn't stop laughing. It laid there, unfolded like he just pulled it down and straight into the box--just like how leaves everything else on his bedroom floor. I read somewhere in this forum that they will learn how to fold while in BC. Boy, I can't wait to see how that'll go.
Oh, I finally got an address. He's in Ship 03, Div R155. Anyone else's love one in this group?
We had a "Wish-him-well" party for him last weekend and to organize it, I created a group on Facebook to invite friends and family. After he left, I decided to keep the group going and just changed the group name into "He's in the Navy Now." Friends and family continue to post, add photos, etc. So I am going to print all the postings and include that in his mails. A few family members are grade school teachers and are incorporating writing to him as part of the kids' learning process. Seeing the very positive things this has brought about, I expanded it to include other sailors as well.
Now I'm making plans on how to make it a bigger project and it's keeping me busy---less time to worry about poor me. LOL.

We just got the box yesterday as well. I am with you...I really hope the Navy teaches them to be neater..lol After watching that boot camp video I'm not sure how they can't be. We are still waiting for the Ship and Div information...anxiously.
We too had a party for our darling daughter to say farewell to all her friends. I love your idea of a Facebook group for her friends. I'll have to see how to put that together. What a wonderful ideas.

my son left on the 7th as well, from NC. Recieved "the box" 2 days ago. Very sad opening that thing. Took awhile to be able to do it. Looking forward to getting letters. I read somewhere that if they get too many letters at once, they will get joked pretty bad and have to do push ups. Sure hope this is not true. I intend to send his address out to everyone he knows.

Hi Maddie,
Our son left from Syracuse on 3/9/11 so I'm sure at some point our guys will cross paths and perhaps be in the same unit! I've learned to "be armed" (tissues) at all times because silly little things set me off and it's hopeless. I have a package ready to go as soon as I get his address. This is so difficult but I know it will be so worth it! Can't wait for graduation!

Received the form letter! Amazing how fast this is going! But his one-liner sounded rather impersonal...
So PIR is on April 29. Whoa! I was thinking it would be towards the end of May. I am sooo excited!

Go to this group. Scroll back one day (maybe two) - I posted a "cheat sheet" for newcommers with links to videos, powerpoint presentation, bootcamp groups, PIR groups. You will know what to do after you finish. You can always go back to the postings for this group if you need to refer back to it. Good luck
