Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

O.K.  Can someone please explain to me why they are pulling teeth out of our kids' mouths!!!!!!  Put allot of time and money into that mouth!  Man, not happy with the Navy right now.  Pulling teeth, no contact to the families, our division getting all the punishment for everyone else like the ship 'whipping boy'.  Geez, it's not war, it's just bc for goodness sakes.

And soccermom, my son made his first phone call to his girlfriend too, not me (or us).  I was a bet taken aback too.  But, after thinking about it, that's what girlfriends and boyfriends are about at this age.  They know mom will always be there, but to have romantic feelings about someone else I think takes presidence now.  I think if I were in there shoes I would call my girlfriend too.

Ugghh!

Otty- I was thinking the exact same thing.  Why are they doing this in Boot Camp of all places?  It seems to me it wouldn't be the time or place to be recuperating from having your wisdom teeth pulled.  I remember my experience and it certainly wasn't pleasant and I didn't recuperate in a few days.  I was swollen for weeks!  Fortunately my son had his wisdom teeth out last year.  What I have been told is that they want to remove any "potential" problems because when they are out on ship there is no help for them.  Nothing worse than an aching or infected tooth and no dentist for months.  Did your son get his wisdom teeth pulled?

Did your son tell his girlfriend that the whole division is getting a lot of punishment or just your son?  I feel horrible if that is the case.  I know my son would do anything he could to spare your son from taking on punishment because of something that he did.    My son mentioned one bout of IT (Intensive Training for punishment).  Maybe he is trying to spare us.  Also maybe will get more information in a letter I expect today.   Will let you know.   Hang in there!

My daughter got her wisdom teeth pulled as well.  Apparently it is because they don't want any problems out on a ship where there is no dentist.  She ended up with an infection.  Not good.
Thats terrible! Hope she gets well soon.
She is better!  I actually was able to talk to her for a short time.

So glad she is better and that you were able to speak to her.:)

So sorry to hear about your daughter.  Has she fully recuperated?  I remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled.  Definitely not fun!

Cheryl, you are so sweet.  I'm sure your son or any of our kids are not purposely slacking off for others to get IT.  I get the strong feeling from my son (which I received his second, short letter this past Thursday) that if there are any mistakes made by anyone in the group, he gets the punishment.  His recent letter stated 19 hour days, not much time to study (since he is RCPO) and he is very stressed because of this leadership role.  But did say he was doing fine.

thanks for the info about the teeth.  Makes sense, I guess, but can't see the kids doing physical activity right after the pulling.  I don't know if his got pulled.  He did have a cavity going in and I'm sure that was taken care of, but not sure of the pulling.  Yuk.

He did say newbies were joining the ship this week.  Maybe some of the pressure will be off our kids now and put on the new ones...hate to say that.

Such a bittersweet time, isn't it??

Hello! Our son called us this sat and it lasted for 45min. It was the best call ever. So be ready because it's coming. Where is he located?
Hi all, I just found this group.  My son is also in Ship 2 Div 920.   Got to talk to him for the first time on Monday.  Very short but he sounded like he was doing ok.
Hi Le Ann!  Got a call from my son on Monday as well.  Ours was about 13 minutes.  How long was yours?

We talked for maybe 7 or 8 minutes.

He had so much to tell us about graduation, his rate that he is trying to decide on etc. that it went by so fast.
