i have not spoken to my son's recruiter, yet,do they accept a phone call from parents? or do they consider this an over-protective parent?

has anyone else had the dilemma of getting your son to pack the after bc box? it seems he cannot bring himself to pack up stuff, sort it out.  i know i cannot pack (do not want to), he only knows what he will want in training, etc.  he brought home allllll, after graduating college, has given a lot to good will, but, there is still stuff everywhere!!!!  my approaches to encourage him have not worked, any suggestions are very much apppreciated.....

mine doesn't leave until april 25th, but, he is in chicago right now, visiting his brother for st. paddy's day.  my daughter is expecting her 2nd child, 1 1/2 hours away, any day now.  last time i stayed for a week to help her get adjusted.  i know she will need me even more this time, with a 3 year old..  in the meantime, our family has a wedding 1 1/2 hours away, the next weekend, another wedding 3 hours away.  then 2 days later, my son leaves.

in the meantime, i will be working, and possibly helping my daughter quite a bit.  also, the son is going to fly in from chicago for the wedding, to see new niece, and spend a little family time with all, before son leaves.  i can see the chaos in my mind.  and unfortunately realize how fast this time can fly by....

i know it will not be the end of the world, i just worry he will get to florida, and say, wow, can you send me such and such..  soooo, we do have time, it has just been  very frustrating.  it does help to know my son is not the only one dealing this way, soooo thank you sooooo much for sharing, it means the world.....

I have spoken at length to my daughter's recruiter on a variety of occassions, both before and after she signed on the dotted line.  He has been very helpful.  Obviously every recruiter is different,  but I would say the majority are very supportive of parental questions.

As far as the packing goes, my daughter is finally working on that now.  I just told her that I wouldn't be responsible for anyting unboxed.  She has marked her boxes: A School, C School and long term storage.  Anything else is goodwill.

i did not want to tread where i wasn't supposed to. so i will definitely be in touch with the recruiter, very reassuring.

when does your daughter leave?

thank you sooo much for sharing, this has been a very unusual experience, and my husband and i had no knowledge of the military, still learning.

this website has saved my sanity, and a lot of tears.......

My daughter ships in September.....we thought it was August, but found out it wasn't.

This site has been very helpful.  What is your son's rating?  Have you found the group of mother's for his A school or rating yet?  Mine happens to be a Nuke and I have found out soooooo much information from the other mother's about what to expect.  It has really helped.

our son has been very closed off to us.  he tells us nothing.  i have no clue what his rating is, only know he is scheduled to go to pensacola, florida, after boot camp...what site  do i go to?

I'm not sure what ratings go to Pensacola.....you'll need to talk to him and get some information.
