Does anyone know any information about Saturday departures?

As far as I know my SR will be leaving on Saturday early in the morning. But I've read that sometimes this may change? So should I change my travel plans to leaving Saturday? Or stay until Monday like we planned?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

I haven't heard if my son will be a Saturday departure or not but we are staying until Sunday reguardless. There is plenty to do and see around there to make the time go fast I'm sure.

Okay, well I'm flying southwest so they will be refundable. Only problem is since I'm flying on my rapid rewards, I either fly out Saturday at 9:30am or Monday at 4:20pm

So It's a vast difference, That's why I'm trying to make a decision.

Thanks for all the advice!

If anyone else has any more info please send it my way!

If your son is a Sat. departure I would say stay until Monday. Some of the flights don't leave until later in the day and you can spend time with your Sailor at the airport until their flight leaves.  Our SR is a Sat. departure and we are staying until Monday for this reason. I want all the time I can get with him...even if it is in an airport terminal! We figure we will spend Sunday seeing Chicago. The weather will be much better from now on.

hmm, well see the only reason we are considering the Saturday AM flight is because we all have work, and I have school on Monday, so since we will be flying in early Thursday we will all miss thursday, and friday so we don't want to miss Monday if we don't have to. Also we will probably be buying our SR a cell phone so even if we won't be with him he can still talk to us until we all get on our planes. Also since his A school will be closer and I will have a month off from school his first month we will be going to visit him alot.

But then on the other hand I want as much time to spend with him as possible and I don't want our time cut short if it doesn't have to be.

I can either stay until Monday, leave early Saturday. Or dish out 200 dollars or more to leave Sunday.

I wish we knew more info from our recruits!

oh! he was able to tell me on a very brief phone call that he will be flying out at 4:30 am, does this mean he will arrive at 4:30 or leave at 4:30? I'm sure that's a question I need to ask him specifically but just wondering if anyone else heard the same thing.
I just called a phone number for the Great Lakes RTC and got a little information that may be helpful. My son will be a Saturday departure so I needed some answers (847-688-2405)
He said they will arrive at the airport around 2:00 to 3:00am Saturday morning-- it is usually the O'Hare airport but that is not for sure and SR wont know until graduation day.
Graduation starts at 9:00am on Friday and is over about 10:30am.
Then I lost my mind a little and forgot to ask what happens next as far as do they go back to their ship after grad and when can we see them again.
Hope this little bit helps.

This "new" information makes me very sad. We (like 95% of SR families) are traveling a very long distance for PIR (May 6, 2011). Driving from Washington to Omaha to pick grandma up and then on to Chicago. I'm just heartsick that we won't have the weekend with our SR, who will be flying to California for A school. This is crazy in my humble opinion!

I agree. It's heart wrenching really, when all this time I had read there was liberty Friday and Saturday. Lots of money and time spent travelling and to lose a whole day, well, it really stinks. :(
i agree.  we are driving from MI to PIR, so not as long.  want to spend as much time with our grad as we can.  she will probably be a grad & go, her A school is in Pensacola.  we are going to get hotel reservations thru Mon. & drive home. spend as much time as possible with her at the airport. She also graduates 5-6-11!!  she is Ship 12/ Div 161.

Thanks for listening Kathy. You hit the nail on the head by saying you were "bitter" for about a week. I was searching my fog filled brain for the correct word...thanks! :)

I am absolutely dreading the drive from Seattle to Omaha to Chicago. I'm going to keep my eye out on the airline websites to see if there is some way to swing flying. I just had my knee replaced in December and sitting for hours on end is not going to be a ton of fun.

Your right about being there for our SR's. I wouldn't miss it for the world. And yes, I know the military drill...hurry up and wait. :(
