That's right Moms!  We are going to the mountains of Afghanistan in March.  Our group is 300 Marines (15 females)  They are HMH-465 Det A.

We have some baseball fans in our adoptees SO since we are entering spring - spring training that is - our theme for the month is BASEBALL!  In addition to their requests let's give them some baseball goodies to celebrate the start of the baseball season.  Some suggestions:  baseball cards, shredded Big League Gum, shredded jerkey, peanuts, popcorn, cracker jack, sunflower seeds.  Stats on teams, pennants, game day programs, sports magazines, - whatever you can think of!

Pillowcases are always appreciated and don't forget those cards and letters!

Their requests:

k-cups for Keurig coffee maker - Timothy's caribou and Irish Cream are their favorites,

Orville Reddenbocker popcorn

corn nuts - all flavors but ranch is their favorite

bite size candy bars and M&Ms

smart Food's cheddar pop corn

magazines - workout, bow hunting, field & stream, boating

salt & pepper shakers

body soap and shampoo

chips (Tostitos and Munchies)

tuna

nature valley crunch bars

Of course, feel free to add to their list.  They have refrigeration and a microwave.  There are 15 females in their unit.

Our mailing dates will be March 21-28th.  I'll post the address in the address group soon.  And I'll be getting a count of boxes and pillowcases as we get closer so I can warn - er, notify, our contact, hee hee!

So far:

Cheryl is packing for the females,

we have pillowcases for all the females,

looks like we have packing parties in Michigan/Ohio and Washington - did I miss any?

Susan and I are working on the scrapbook

Proud NYPD got the letter from the MLB Commissioner and it looks like we have almost every team - sadly California is lagging-not for lack of pestering, lol

300 k-cups - excellent!

And lots of salt/pepper shakers, lol

We have more pillowcases either ready or in the works - don't forget to post your numbers in the pillowcase thread

We're looking good ladies!!  Great work!  Our Marines will be so surprised!

Nice summing up there Vickie. I am looking forward to our packing party. The elementary school that is helping us has asked for a pick up. They have til the end of the month so I am hoping for lots of good things. Waiting for the Mariners to call and say come get your things. Also waiting on the K cups to be delivered. Those are being shipped to me next week. Next week will be a wait for the delivery week.

Susan, I am going to see if the school will allow some pictures with the kids. Might be a nice addition to the scrap book. I have a teacher there that wants some pillowcases for her kids to sign and such. Working on that one. So much fun.

I am sending 300 lip balms, dont worry my summer recipe has a high melt point.

Also there is some bar soap going too {:oD

I also have a listing on my etsy store, for folks to buy lip balms for the troops.

This means there will always be lip balms for all care packages.

San

Vickie,

MA Navy Moms are not planning a packing party.  Some have said they are going to send packages on their own.  I will post in MA Moms that the females are taken care of.

I have 2 boxes of MLB items.  But, I got no mail today.  Still waiting on 3 of mine.  Will go call them after 1:30p or 2p since they are almost always out at lunch during that time!!  I will also include some "baseball" food in my boxes.  I was thinking of Cracker Jacks, unshelled peanuts (wrapped extra thick) and hopefully Major League Bubble Gum.  Looking for packs of baseball cards, but can't seem to find them.  I can't imagine it is too early - little kids are always looking for them.

Don't worry.  I'm confident they won't let us down.  Did you tell the CA teams that they will end up left out of the scrapbook & everyone else is in (even the Yankees, if they play the NYY we can be sure they don't like them!)??  Also, the Commissioner has sent a letter?  Either of those might help.  Good luck & Happy Hunting!!  LOL  ;)

I'm going to try to get home a little early today so I can follow-up with phone calls to my CA teams.  I'm also including cracker jack, bb cards, peanuts.  I would love to see some pics of everyone's contents.  Found the baseball cards at the Dollar Tree
Thanks for the idea of the Dollar Tree.  I've been looking around, but no one seems to have their baseball cards out yet.  I'll go there as soon as I get a car back to drive!  Hubby is out & son took mine.  I think we need another car ... I have things to do for MAS and everyone in the family is getting in my way!!

Vickie ~ you inspired me to do something crazy!!  Since some people are allergic to nuts, I went to the Dollar Store and bought all the orange "Circus" peanus they had.  You know the kind?  Pure sugar and orange in color, but they are SHAPED like peanuts.  My family is so into this group, my hubby didn't even make a comment about all the fake peanuts!!

Swung by the school today. Picked up 4 bags and one big box of donated items. Plus a pile of letters from some of the kids. They are just so cute. One girl even pasted an origami bird she had made to her letter. You can definitely tell the boys from the girls as well. Some did them with the schools mailing address with their names or their teachers name. I hope that they will hear back from our marines. Such a great group. I will scan in a few and post them in the next few days. Some are just so funny. The kids that wrote them were 9-12 year olds and I can say, they have some very interesting questions. They still have a week to go and then it will be spring break here so I have to  pick up anything else Friday.

Here is just the cutest letter from one of the kids at Pope Elementary. I think it will bring a few smiles once it is received.

so sweet and just at a good time, too.

Precious!
What a cute letter!
