Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Baby left for bootcamp from Los Angeles on 3/7/11
If my son can handle it, I should be able to do the same, right?
It's his first time out from home but he seems to be taking it much better than me. I can't wait to start receiving letters. He was never the gushy type and it would actually be fun to see even just a line or two. I know it's a long ways from bc graduation but it's all I am looking forward to right now.

Oh great I knkow we can't say names on here but I hope they are making friends with each other. I went ahead and sent a letter last night the only thing I put in there were mailing labels with the address' of the people he wants to write to. That way it's easier for him when he writes back he can just plop a label on instead of writing out everyone's address. I think we can mail them stamps but not sure yet. I have phone cards but not sending those until I get his form letter.

my son left 3/7 and I am still waiting for the official letter
He is also in the nuke program so it will be interesting to see when they have their PIR
I guess I will wait patiently for the official letter so I know where to send letters

Sorry, I haven't been around - trying to juggle too many things - such as life.
REMEMBER PASS-IN-REVIEW PIR is always on FRIDAY. Lot of good info that is PIR related in this group (organized as a informational center) PIR Reference Information. While at boat camp, the barracks are names after boats (not to be confused with the real ones out there!). Read through this for an explanation. GROUPS: Listed by Ship, scroll down 1 page - see diagram).
If you need to learn how to use this site, go to FORUM, HOW TO DO STUFF ON N4M category - I have posted a number of discussions - be sure to go back to old ones too.
One of the issues is many new members don't check their own page, or their INBOX for messages. So click on MY PAGE (one of the tabs above) and the stuff provided on your STATUS BOX (the thing on your upper right). Another item is people get irritated with all those email notifications - easy solution - just click on "STOP FOLLOWING" just under the input comment box. Everyone should take a couple of hours and start click around to learn how to use this site. I know it's the "emotional connection" that draws people in to this site - we are all looking to connect with other moms/wives/gf with loved ones in the Navy. But because this site is run mostly by volunteers - the hours demanded of the volunteers start to mount. Many of us are trying to organize things - me with all the list - Jessica with welcoming messages. It's no use if people don't take advantage of the info provided already.
SO PASS THE WORD, PLEASE HELP US HELP THE NEW MEMBERS.
BTW, I can see that you all are trying hard. You really will be fine. it's hard being a military mom but when you see you sons/daughters at PIR - you will get a feeling that you have never experienced before in your life - you will cry, smile (until your face hurts), laugh, beam. Your heart will feel like it's about to burst. When you hold your sailor, you'll want to shoot everyone else away and be totally selfish.

MomB and Robin: My SR is on ship 12/ Div 157. I have no idea how the divisions are broken down. I do know that his PIR (Graduation) is on May 6, 2011. He left from Seattle on March 9th. My SR's girlfiriend received "the box" on Wed. 3/16 and the form letter yesterday 3/17.
I've been looking for information regarding SR's who's A school is NOT in Illinois being flown out to their A school on the Saturday morning after PIR. My SR A school is in California. We are planning on driving from Seattle area via Omaha NE (to pick grandma up) and then on to Chicago. It's ironic that while WE are still in Chicago or SR will be back on the west coast!
Needless to say I'm not the least bit happy about this new change of policy (if in fact it is new) that Naval Command has made. I'm assuming that many families will be traveling quite a distance for PIR. There are so many details to work out, not to mention the expense. I truly feel like the rug has been pulled out from underneath me. We will be able to see our SR at graduation and for a few hours afterwards, and then at the airport for an undetermined amount of time. This just doesn't sound right to me.
Does anyone have any other information?

Hey Robin a Nukes mom my son is Ship 12 Div 158 also, you said you were going to head over there and join that group . My question is what group are you talking about? Any Idea about how much time they might have between BC and the time they leave for A school? I am looking forward to PIR and we are planning a trip to Charleston Mom B

hi ! my husband left that same day and went to visit him at the hotel and thats where i said my good bye to him and two days ago i recieve a letter with all his information regarding graduation..&. etc he is in SHIP 12 DIV 158 graduates on MAY 6 2011 . ..
