Hi Lisee :-)

So glad you found us !! I have not received a call yet either, but I am trying to stay positive and just know there has to be a good reason for my son not calling. In one of his letters my son said he had let other people us his phone card and it was low so I am thinking he ran out of minutes. Just think after 4/15 we will be able to contact them all the time !!!!! Hang in there and just write, write, write to him. It is nice to meet you too and look forward to seeing you in GL.

Thanks.  I know my son would call if he could.  He did mention that some recruits have been having trouble with 'cohesivness' (is that a word ?!). I'm assuming when they are all stepping to the line together the rewards will come.  I am writing him about every other day and his letters tell me he appreciates it.  I even started going to the "dollar store" nearby and picking up funny card and colorful cards and inserting letters inside.  He said he really likes the funny messages.  We'll all hang in there and know that on the other side they will be more disciplined and solid young adults than when they left home.  We are very proud of him and I know you are proud too.  See you and GL!

I wish they would all get it together.  It seems they will never step up to the line.

I have started doing things with pictures.  Like making them watermarks on the paper I am writing the letter on, or making negetives of the pictures with a caption (guess who)  Sending news.  Sending comments from the dogs.  Including one liners.  There is a very funny thread on here I think it is under forums about practicing to be in the navy.  Had me laughing out loud and crying at my desk at work-in a room all by myself!  too funny!  I will include some of them as well.

I received a call a week ago. We talked for twenty minutes.  He said he had tried to call about three times before that and could not get anyone.   Every time he tried it took 13 minutes fromt he phone card.  I sent him a new card this week in a letter.  You might try sending him one and putting your phone number on the card itself.  They are so used to their cell phones and speed dial that they forget the phone numbers.

Mary-La Quintas is 15 minutes from base according to mapquest.

Lisee- Nice to meet you.  Welcome, what took you so long to find us?

I believe they have to have phone cards.  I was told collect calls are not allowed.  Not sure of the leave after A school either.

How are you holding up in Japan?  My heart goes out to your country.

Still no letter for you?

My son said they are hard headed! lol  No letter yet this week.  I hope I am not sending so many that he is taking all his time reading them and no time to write.  I want to hear about firearms training.  He should do really well in that.

I am glad you are doing better.

LOL I was thinking the same thing about my son, because my letters to him are long...

NavyFiancée(Ship09Div 131) Hi, my son is a HM (Hospital Corpsman) too and as far as I know the last class starting for HM School in GL is April 17th and graduating sometime in July.  So based on the fact I think your fiancee and my son will be in GL for HM School.  I know my son was hoping to go to San Antonio, because it is new and cool like he said.  Are you coming for graduation? I hope you get more letters soon.  Take Care

oh and La Quintas has 5 restaurants really close to them.

Does anyone know what the weather is like in Great Lakes in April?  I need to know how to pack.

HisMom,

I read somewhere that it is cold where the graduation is held so to make sure to wear a coat. My son said that the weather is getting warmer but the way the weather has been this winter I would make sure to pack warm clothes. I am not sure about the restaurants, we are getting there on Thrusday so I am sure my husband will drive around and look at places we can go... Thanks for the restaurant tip :-)

Has anyone heard how they are doing lately?  Didn't get any mail this week.  Not real happy about that.  I HAVE NEEDS!  I am guessing we are not doing well or all the moms would be on here chattering away.
I received a letter.  My son says they can mail things on Sunday to which I would usually receive the mail on Wednesday in Oregon.  It came Thursday but you are right...we have NEEDS!!!  I hugged the letter as he has been journaling daily even a few words and that totally makes my day!!  I was thinking that it was too heavy of an envelope and it got returned or something.  His box didn't make it to me as it was returned so I am thankful to get a letter.  As Kenny's Mom once told me..."the mailman does not know he is being stalked!"  So hopefully today you will get a letter!!  My son has been sick and trying not to be SIQ (sick in quarters) because that is bad.  They have been getting plenty of IT'd (Intensive Training) sessions.  The other day they stood for a mock inspection from lunch to dinner.  My son didn't do so good due to coughing.  So, my son is one of the ones that lead them to be IT'd.  DAMN cough!! My apologies!  I pray that he gets better immediately!! God Bless you all!
