I have a daughter that will be heading to FMTB on March 16th, what do I need to expect while she is there. We only live about 2 hours from the base and want to take advantage of her being so close. After training she will be heading to California and who knows when we will get to see her for a visit, so we would like to have some time with her while she is so close. Everything I read is about a son in training, I would love to hear from some mom's that has had a daughter go through the training and also what life is like for our daughters once they are deployed. My daughter has told me that there is some restrictions on the females once they are deployed. Any info is appreciated.

Hi Pebbles - My son is starting FMTB on March 16th as well. Sorry I have a son not a daughter. I understand that they will go through phases as they did in A school. Each phase allows more privileges. I believe graduation will be on May 13th. In other trainings they just have curfews so work until about 4 p.m. and have to be in at a certain time. I don't know too much about that. You probably know much more than I but I wanted to say hi anyway. There is one other mom on the main group sounds like her son is starting as well so I will mention this chat to her and maybe we can fill each other in as we go! :) Your daughter must be a tough cookie and you must be proud of her.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond, but I found out that my daughter is on hold. She didn't find out until the day of graduation. She has to wait for a class in May due to having enough females for her to class up with. So she is on hold and working at the hospital there. I am really excited about the hold because she has 2 months of all weekend liberty and we are planning to pick her up next weekend. We only live about 2 hours from the base so I am going to take advantage of her being so close to home. Good luck to all the sailors that are currently in training, from what my daughter has been told it is tough. I am so proud of her and she has always loved a challenge. The Navy has been a great choice for her, but not necessarily for me. I miss her so much but she is doing what she wants to do and is so happy. What more could a mother ask for.

Hi Tenn Navy Mom - What a ride, I guess I don't even know what questions to ask it is all so new. I try to gather things from what others write but it is tough sometimes.

Hope everyone's kids are doing great! It will be interesting to see what they share with us this weekend. I am sure they are very busy this week. I kind of have a light agreement with my son to only call on the weekend to catch up - sometimes the weeks are long. :)

Will either of you go to graduation - my family is planning on going. Summer would be better but I am just not sure what will happen next and when he will have time off.

Take care NMs!

Hi Tenn Navy Mom - no news from my son yet. Thanks for sharing your news. When I hear from mine I will let you know what he tells me. Good they have liberty anyway. Wow 4AM comes fast as well as 10PM. I am crossing my fingers that they learn lots and meet some good buddies! We are planning on graduation too. One of the dad's said it wasn't too exciting but it will be wonderful to see them and have some time.

We are from Washington State so it is a ways for us and we are excited to see the east coast.

It is nice to type with other moms in FMTB!

Type at you soon

Hi Ladies - Got a call through to my son, he sounded good, found a few friends from previous schools so was happy about that. Said they get their gear on Tuesday and are starting to get into a routine. Loves working out and being outside in the sun. I hope he is using sunblock! Forgot to remind him. I am starting to really look forward to our trip to see him. Checking out things to do in the area. Any suggestions??? Heard the seafood is yummy around there. He had watch so was busy getting things situated.

Hope all is well with your kids too!

I don't know about the seafood but the BBQ is the best! Dan took us to a place on Western Blvd across from Coastal Carolina Comm. College, I forget the name but I think it had Picnic in it somehow. You can get seafood a lot of places but NC is the place for pulled pork bbq!
NC does vinegar based bbq, Wilbur's in Goldsboro, NC is the best, we always stop on the way thru. I'ts about an hour north of Jacksonville. Emerald Isle is a beautiful beach to stay when in town, about 30 mins. from base. We rented a place on the beach for a weekend visit.

Pulled pork and BBQ it is then! We will have to stop for sure - that sounds really great.

Aus said that gear issue is on Tuesday so they will get going from there I am sure. He said they are working out already which he loves so that part is good. I heard there are lots of tests and studying which will be good for their minds as well.

It will be fun to explore that area and see his new home for now any way.

So greatful to find the right spot here at N4Ms. Hi. I am a proud sailor Mom whose Corpsman son is heading this way in a month. Probably the May something class FMTB. I have so enjoyed your posts so I can figure out this phase....son or daughter...although I so admire the young lady. Am I in the right place?

Hi Everyone-

Can hardly believe how time is moving along! Did you gals/guys find the link that has the tests and what they are studying? Looks like lots of information! Really neat all they get to learn although I am not sure they think it is really neat right now! :) Sounds like they are in a routine anyway and busy of course. My son loves the work outs! Hope yours are having a great time!

We watched "Flags of Our Fathers" this weekend - if you haven't seen it is about WWII so a bit graphic but is a good movie and shows a "Docs" job very well - at least I guess for those of us who will never experience it. What an important job and how many count on these guys!

Always saying prayers!

Hi Tenn -

Thanks for the note, I got to talk to our son a couple of times this weekend. :) He said they failed their inspection on Friday and had liberty on Saturday and Sunday - probably to ease them into time off so no one would get really crazy.

A couple of his friends from another school are there with him so he is happy to find that the Navy is really a small world. He is really enjoying the school too. He said it is very interesting and he likes that they get to do some outside work as well as lots of school work. I think it is going to get more and more interesting for them.

I seem to be fine with whatever he is doing as long as he is happy or feels good about it anyway. I suppose that is the same for all us moms. The sacrifice doesn't seem as tough if they are doing what they enjoy.

Are you planning your trip? Only 6 weeks to go! Will your son come home for Easter weekend? Ours is going to see family close by if his leave is approved of course. I am glad cause the holidays always seem lonely without family around. Silly traditions and tons of food!! :)

Thank you for the extra prayers. Your son and all the militray men and women are in my prayers as well. This experience really opens your heart. I got to talk to a young man from the Army who was home visiting his mom after serving in Afganistan. Some part of it felt like talking to my own son. He seemed fine and happy to be home of course. He didn't say much about his experience. I just thanked him for his service and gave him a big hug. I know his mom was sooooo happy to see his face.

I am glad our son's have such a great job to do saving lives, being strong and using their minds as well.

We are so proud of all of them! I hope they are as proud of themselves. :)
