Wow, after reading everyones comments and support, or at least trying to thru the tears, I have to agree with everyone.  Your son is and will always be a DIV 123 guy.  I am truly sorry for this set back, BUT like other moms have said, He is not hurt or sick.  AMEN!!  I cant even imagine what you are going thru with all of this setback nor what he is going thru either.  You know it has to be hard on him...Bless his heart!!!  I, too, would like to send him a letter of encouragement.

 

I agree that things with the Navy and I am sure will all the branches of the military is such a catch 22.  I personally feel that the reason that he "failed" his first test is BOGUS!!!  There should be some sort of scheduling rule so that this would not happen to ANY SR.  But...what can you say, its the military!!!

 

I know that this is easier said than done, but KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND STAY STRONG FOR SHANE!!!  We all are praying for you and Shane!!!

Be sure you stay in our group.  We still would like to hear from you as to what is going on!!

I am so, so sorry to hear about what has happened to Shane. I have to admit that my first thought was OMG I hope he hasn't been hurt, but then after I read your post I was really, really angry. And it still makes me cry every time I start to think about it. It certainly wasn't his fault that he was in the dentist's chair and how can they penalize him for that?! I certainly don't agree with their logic but I was heartened to hear that the CO fought for Shane and while he might not have gotten the initial results he wanted at least he got him into the division that he wanted him to continue with. BUT....rest assured that Shane and you are Ship 11, Div 123 all the way!! 

 If you could pass along his new division number I would like to send him a card as well. 

They say that all things happen for a reason and perhaps in time that reason will be known, but in the meantime stay strong and know that you have a lot of support in all us "cyber moms"!

Got my letter today.  It is encouraging to read his letters.  He sounds so excited.  He did say that they were told about Japan and Libya.  The one flag they earned (drill flag) allows them to sing cadence on the street.  He also earned a ribbon for firing the 9mm.  Hopefully their brother divison (124) will be able to pull it together before BS.  He said one RDC was fired for "failure to train" and the other quit. He is so happy he with Division 123.  So am I.

Another postive note is that he managed to bring his running down to 12.30.  He has to shave 15 more seconds off of his time.  He is postive he will be able to meet this goal. 

I am so proud of him.  When thinking back to 6 months ago, I was worried about this decision he made.  I think this has been the best experience for him.

Great news about your sons ribbon, that is awesome. And also for bringing his run time down, I am sure he will be able to shave off the 15 seconds. Not to make light of that, I know that is a hard thing to do but when push comes to shove the adrenaline just might kick in and he does better than he thought he could. 

Thanks for the info about the flag and what it means. Hopefully Division 124 will be ok, fingers crossed.

Hello Navy mama's  :)

  Im still a blubbering mess my heart is just broken and I cant seem to  stop crying Im in the middle of Sams club shopping and WHAM here come the

tears LOL ridiculous ... then  I get a letter from him  cuz they come on thursdays and he   sais he had been in the SIQ for 2 days with a temp of 103.1 then they finally put him on an IV and pumped him full of meds  and he was feeling better said  hell week wasnt as bad as he thoujght  but they had to get up every morning at 3:30am so they were tired  said he won the sharp shooter in their division andthen I just bawl again  cuz he  is no longer in that div and lost  all his awards  JUST sux ..... but then I sit here and think you know what he has togo thru hell week again and  firing range and  all that again and you know what HE CAN DO IT AGAIN he can win those few awards  from here on out again . then I  think  omg  I hope the new division  welcomes him in and doesnt sabatoage things  for him  beingthat they have been there  since day one and that is THEIR division (kinda like protective mode of  the div ) then I think DAM the next two weeks  he and alex  wont laugh their butts off at something . but  then  he can make friends and   now he just gets to have  a few more "brothers " to add to his list ughhhhhhhh just a whirl wind .... then Icomeread everyones post  and guess what I AM division 123 and SHANE is division 123  and we are just  gonna stay that in our hearts  <3 and I  am gonna keep  all these pins and shirts  because he worked his butt off in Div 123  and I have made some great friends in here  and I might not  ever get to meet your boys now and I wont be at that graduatuion  but I will wear my tshirt proudly on the 8th in honor of you all and  your great sons  and for mine as well ...........and im gonna pray my big bootie off that Shane passes  this test he  failed  and I am sure I will continue to cry  and get  mad at the system  but  also support the decision  because life aint easy and we all hit  walls  and it isnt  the last wall shane will hit .... we are great moms and we have great sons ... and  will ever be  bonded  trhu the NAVY!!! I dont know who  I have responded to  with  Shanes new addy and who I have not so  it is the same addy as  all of  ours for div 123  but his  new  div is  Ship 09 Div 138   Shane Taravella .... then same addy ...... thanks for  those who have and will send him some encouragement and for helping me thru this and ZI AINT GOING ANYWHERE  LOLOLOL :)

I would call RTC or ask on the support site first about the keal book. Your son may have already ordered it also. I don't mind helping, but I would try to gather info first.

Oh Michele - 

My heart still aches for you and Shane. It really isn't any easier to read and to try and comprehend what has happened in the past few days. I was trying to explain it to some friends today and it still made me tear up. Even though he's not my son, I feel like he's connected to me, just as we are all connected to one another. 

Take care and continue to be strong. And crying in Sam's is ok; if anyone asked and you told them what had happened they would be crying with you!!!  You are not alone in this.

And with regards to the sharpshooter award - AWESOME! No one can take that accomplishment away from him. I really hope and pray that the new division will see Shane as the wonderful person that he is and understand that by they grace of God, they too could be in his position. The Navy is a team first and foremost,  regardless of what division you are in.

I'm sorry that I won't get the chance to meet you or Shane in GL but it's a small world, so you never know! And besides, Rags will have your space saved; so in spirit you'll be there!
