Hello Peggy, That is a question your son maybe able to answer for you. It has been my experience on this website we should not discuss dates (before) or where they are going (before they get there) on the website. Someone may want to correct me if I am wrong, but that's the way I understood the rules.

Peggy - Annette is correct -  your son will need to be the one who tells you the date, and may be able to

share a little information about where in general terms.  However, that information should not be published

here or on Facebook or Twitter for security reasons.

keep in mind .. everything changes on a dime.

Peggy   My son deploys in May as well and his best buddy is a "Michael"     I wonder if it is your son    I am having anxiety issues and would really like to have a friend to talk to   There is so much we cant say here    Could you please email me at sharoncede@yahoo.com so we can talk    Thank you in advance and I really hope to hear from you     Sharon

Peggy,

have you contacted the ombudsman for your sailors ship yet?  they are a great resource!

Jennifer

Thanks for the information. I was wonder what is the nearest airports  to fly into. I have never been there before and have no idea what to expect. My son is graduating C school in April and then going to that base. Any information is greatly appreciated.
What is ombudsman???  My son will be going to Norfolk Vir. soon.  anyone have any info.
Charlotte and others - An ombudsman is very much like the same job in civilian settings. An
independent representative to contact with questions. They are not advocates, but are usually
the first line of communication between Navy and families and their sailors. Like many other
jobs, some people are able to do more than others. There is one assigned to virtually every ship
and each shore organization. I don't remember the website, but the Navy has one just for this
group of valuable people.

If others have had more recent experiences - chime right in.

As to airport. The Norfolk airport is in the same part of the city as the ship base, its very close. Delta
and Southwest both fly there from several different directions.
