For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I may not be the best one to answer this bc my dtr has only been there for 2 weeks (and what a rough 2 weeks its been) but with that being said, the only thing that I know of that she could keep was a calling card. Everything they take with them comes back in "the box." As far as taking things to bootcamp, they will come back. I would tell her to focus on studying the naval information that she is supplied in her DEP program. I was very impressed with my dtr's recruiter and how prepared she was for bootcamp. We'll see how she stands up to the test when I get more communication with her, but her letter and phone call home were very upbeat! Hope this helps some. Good luck to your daughter and family.

Thank you so much for your reply; it helps me a bunch. Another question if you don't mind -- the family guide to boot camp suggests an AT&T calling card. Is that the kind your daughter had or did you or she find a better one?

I bought AT&T. Anyone will work but make sure it is one that you can replenish from home. This way you can keep track and add more money if she needs it. I haven't had that happen (yet) but from what I've read it will.

My daughter graduates next week April 8,2011. As far as how things went with her, they were not allowed to have anything but some cash (at least $100), a calling card and a tad bit of makeup to be used only for pictures and graduation. They will allow them to go to the store there and buy curling irons, hair dryers and other things to use for their pictures and grad only. This will be about 5 weeks in. Also if you did not know they pull their wisdom teeth if they have them, girls get put on birth control and have a gyno exam. I am not telling you this to worry you so im sorry please don't take it that way. It was just very shocking to hear it from her because i had no clue. The first 3 weeks are tuff for them just tell her to stay strong, remember she is just traing for her career,(a little harder than training for mcdonalds,lol). She will be fine though, let her know we are all proud of her for what she is doing and please have everyone write to her tons and send lots of photos and cards. it really makes it easier on them and makes their time pass by faster. good luck to her keep us posted and stay strong mom she will be fantastic. sorry so long. Thanks, Linda. I especially appreciate the advance notice about wisdom teeth, gyno exam, and birth control pills. My daughter is older than most recruits and has lived away from her dad and me for a while although we see her once a week. It's going to be hard knowing that we won't be seeing her regularly, but we've been "empty-nesters" for a few years now. However, I do appreciate having a community with whom I can share a mom's concerns and who is helping me stay strong for her.
