Welcome 1fireteamwife, NavyGirlMom, and gomarville!!!  I just added you to the calendar!!  Be sure to join in the conversations on the main March Page - we have all been where you are - and we are here to support you!!

Don't forget to put your ship and division in a "reply" when you find out - that way we can see who is in our SR's division!

Congrats to Virginia S and ccmmom for receiving their numbers!!!  Now you can send those letters and write more!!!

WAHOO!!!! IM A HAPPY GIRL!!!!! got a text today from my SR's mom saying she got the form letter!!! He is in ship 7/ div. 174!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PIR date of may 20,2011!!!!!! I am one happy girl!!!! This has made my WHOLE WEEK!!!! :D now i can send out the 10 letters ive been waiting to send out!!! WOOT WOOT! next stop getting a letter from him!!!

YAY! Finally address and ship info, had to call recruiter I ran out of patience!  So with that said...

Ship 4 Div 811  He didn't have grad. date yet but it will probably be 5/20, we'll see.

how funny got letter today too!  PIR 5/20 confirmed. :)  Wow what a relief, now I can start planning a trip!!
Helloooo! My boyfriend just arrived at Great Lakes on 3/29! Add me Please : )
From Proud Na V Mom:  If anyone has a son or daughter who left for boot camp on 03/28 and you have a ship/division please let me know!  I'm being told I won't get that til next Wednesday at the earliest.  I don't think it should take that long.  I just don't want my son to be the only one on mail call day without any mail!  Thanks!!!

Hi Proud Mom,

Unfortunately, the SRs who arrive at boot camp on the same day won't necessarily have the same ship/division.

The recruiters can sometimes give the information within 72 hours, but mine did not, I also had to wait a week. I don't think the wait matters (except to our nerves), because they don't get mail until week 2 or later. They get a big glob of backlogged mail at first and then it is sort of regular. What you can do (and I did) is start writing letters and save them up until you get the address, then run to the mail box! It will still be a week or so until he can read them, so he won't be the only one.

Hang in there, it's hard at first but the time starts to pass quickly.

Valtameri:  Thanks for the advice.  I thought my recruiter was slacking on his job.  It seemed like some people get their loved one's ship/div after 2-3 days.  My son will be gone 1-1/2 weeks by the time I get his.  If I don't get it before Wednesday chances are he won't get mail the first day he's able to get it.  It takes 3 days to get a letter to the state next door to mine (from MS to LA) so I don't think 3 days will be enough to get one from MS to IL.  As far as letters are concerned, I have about 30 (20 from friends/family and 10 from me) already waiting to be mailed!!!  Do you know if they only get mail on Sunday or do they get it every day?  I was under the impression they got mail only on Sunday (I know that's the only day they can write back to us).  If I'm wrong about that then it won't be a big deal getting mail one day later than everyone else.  He'll be so bombarded on the first day he won't have time to read them all!!!!

Thanks again for the advice.  The wait has definitely shattered my nerves!!  :)

Mail call is Mon - Sat, I believe. I know that my son was on day 18 before his division was able to open their first piece of mail. You're right about having time to read them -- my son told me even though he had over a dozen letters at first, he could only open about three on the first day.

Perhaps you could email the recruiter on Monday and kindly remind him/her that you are anxious to mail your letters. Maybe he will have it by then.

Good luck, and don't be too concerned about it. It will work out.

My son left for RTC 3/29 waiting for that 1st letter...
I believe it was 10 days before I got the form letter and 23 days before the first real letter. I think 23 days is a little on the long side; some divisions are able to write home sooner.

Welcome CRF230dad - I just added you to the calendar - be sure to let us know what your SR ship and div are when you get the info - it helps us keep track of who might be with who!!  As you can see there are a lot of recruits that left the same day - be sure to "friend" some of these people - it is a great way to "network" and find out what may be going on!  Some SR's write more than others and by comparing letters we can figure out what is happening with our SR's.  Again Welcome to the March group!
