My daughter leaves for boot camp on April 19th and asked me to post this question:  For you moms who have daughters in boot camp or have recently completed boot camp -- what personal items did your daughters find most useful and what items, if any, would they have brought to boot camp but didn't?  She's very excited about her new adventure and wants to be prepared as much as possible.  I have purchased "Navy Boot Camp -- A Guide for the Family" for my husband and me.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give me in answering my daughter's question.

My heart just sank when I saw you said they pull their wisdom teeth.  They do this in bootcamp?  Does this set them back at all?  I hate to think of her having this done without any support.  Did they allow a day off to recover at all?
no it does not set them back thank god, but i guess they do it because so many people have problems with them, they dont want them stuck on a sub or ship with tooth problems. also they dont want them to have to go to over seas dentist
Good to know.  TY

My daughter left on 3/21. She took a few good sports bras which got sent back, along other things sent back: tampons (said on list to bring); her contacts & case and small bottle of solution (again said u could bring-for pictures and PIR)

Again have her take calling card (after cell is sent back), cash, and stamps. Not sure about paper/pen/envelopes.

I would say if she has a cell phone and u are ok with her having it while she is at hotel and airport, let her take that. She will use it to make her quick phone call home, and that will be ship back.  Now a tip that I saw somewhere, but forgot to tell my daughter. Have your daughter write u a note while she is at airport, hotel where ever waiting. When she has to pack her stuff she can slip the note into her shoe. I wish I would of told my daughter to do this. She will have time to think and reflect while she is waiting. She may also want to include a note to a bf or whoever.

Also if you get a chance go to MEPS and watch her being sworn in. My daughter had a friend that actually went to airport and waited with her at the gate. Most security will let u in with a ID and give u a special pass.
