Looks like boxes have already started arriving in Afghanistan:
Mrs. Steele,
My name is GySgt. XXX XXXX, I am a U.S. Marine currently deployed to Afghanistan with Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 461. My unit received care packages from students at St. Benedict Catholic School.
We would like to write them back thanking them and to answer some of the questions they asked. We appreciate the support! I am not sure if you are with the school or strictly a coordinator for the packages, if you could send me an e-mail address to the principle or someone else that could communicate our gratitude to the students I would appreciate it. Again, Thank you for your support.
Sincerely, XXXX XXXXX
I wrote him back and explained more, clarifying the letters from the students, then heard from him again:
Thank You for the reply. We will look forward to the coming packages! You said your son is deployed on the USS Kearsarge, I have Marines from my unit also deployed on that Ship. They should be returning home soon!!
That entire MEU did a Great job considering everything they were tasked with and the amount of time they have been deployed. I look forward to writing the kids and thanking them and again, Thank you for your support. It means a lot to the Marines and all Military members for that fact. God Bless.
Semper Fi,
XXXXXX
And one more time from him:
Also….Please pass our Gratitude to all of the “Moms” that put the packages together!! It makes a difference here!
Mike
I'm going to get him the teachers name at St. Benedict's and also another teacher friend of mine who's kids made cards. I know they will all love hearing from the Marines!!
Another one:
Dear Ms. Steele,
Thank you for all you do for our troops over here in Afghanistan and
elsewhere. We received a package sent by you with some fine "goodies"
enclosed. They were received and shared amongst our shop. I have at this
time 13 Marines and 7 Civilian Marine Contractors in the shop. We work
at a Marine Heavy Lift Helicopter Squadron in Southern Helmand Province,
Afghanistan. With the kindness of people like yourself and the generous
donations provided we lack for very little here. Our sincerest thanks to
you job well done.

e-mail from our POC:
"You gals are awesome! I have been receiving them all week and all the Marines are loving it! Thank you so much again!"
That is fantastic... I will have the WA boxes on their way tomorrow... Kim and I are both stitching like crazy to complete the last 120 pillowcases needed... anyone else want to pitch in a few??
Susan, you and Kim are dolls. I've been trying to get back to my sewing machine but not any luck. And I need to start stitching for May.
Hugs!
Susan, a little here, a little there and they all added up. Yeah for us! I will plan to ship tomorrow and find some stuff to fill the box. I know I can fit 43 pillowcases in a box (ha ha ha - no comments DIANE or MOLLY!!!)
Also, if you are looking for sewers in your areas, I can post an ongoing VolunteerMatch opportunity if you are willing to be a point of contact to collect them. Let me know and I'll post away!!!
