Got another call yesterday. Ronnie said they are "somewhat finally getting it". He said they did real well on their testing yesterday is why they got to call. He is a "team leader" or squad leader?I don't know something that moved him up in rank?He said he has to wear some sort of a pin and will be front row at graduation?Has one of the best racks and still says his bunk mate is from georgia and really cool.

He said A school in Pensacola is now 2 weeks? I was wondering if they are rushing it because we need to go save the world issues going on?

I am gonna cancel Sat and Sun for the lodge we decided to fly home Sat since we wont have time with him.

Check your Southwest Tickets if you have them flights are being canceled..........

ronniesmom;

what rate is he? (job)

Congrats to him for being squad leader!!  Maybe he's what they needed to "get it together"!!

I know they can change out leaders through out BC.!! Let's hope he stays!!  LOL

I am thankful we only have about a 5 hour drive to GL - I think we will wait to change the hotel dates til we get there and talk with our SR - Hubby and I are talking about doing the tourist thing in Chicago since we both have time off approved!  Just don't know yet!

Not sure, but I do know they are both in Hopper. Honestly, I can't answer half of those questions. When she called she was ALL over the place, talking about so much at the same time, I couldn't even follow along!!

We (my mom and I) are staying at the Ramada and plan on going to the meet and greet, as well. I think it's $10 more a night than you are paying, but at least it comes w/breakfast!

We didn't get a call tonight, was really hoping she would get the opportunity so I could see how her knee was.

My son, Ben is in this division.  I haven't talked with Ben for about a week.  I have gotten one letter, I think he is pretty busy. He has talked to his sis, seems to be doing well.  Not much else.  Hopefully a call or another letter.  Will keep everyone posted to any new news.

Welcome aboard jkk!!

What is your SR's rate?  (Job)  Where will he be going to A School?  Mine is going to Pensacola.

Are you going to PIR??  Where are you staying?

I got another letter yesterday - he said the division did really well last week!!  Marlinespike was "fun"!

He said they are all starting to get along now!!  WOO HOO!

No mail yesterday or today. It has been regularly on Wed? The call Sat was nice but I am a bit concerned about no mail?
You got a call? :(  I didn't :(   Got another letter, however. She is still having issues w/her knee but they are giving her pep talks to keep her spirits up. She's worried about being asmoed after all she's gone thru.

Oh wow I sure hope she can push thru.............its a tough time for them and I pray for all of them to have the strength to the finish line.

It's almost here so hang in there.

CMom, jkk is my mom. Ben has had the most communication with me. Anyway he'll be going to A School in Pensacola also. After that, he'll have about 21 days here before he gets shipped to Hawaii. As far as his rate, I'm not sure about that. The last phone converstion I had with him was about 4 days ago. He said he didn't have a job yet. Something about 'striking (?)'. Whatever that means. Initially, he was supposed to learn how to work on jets. His letters are super short and I've only received 2. Usually they aren't even a whole page. I don't think they give him much time to write. In fact, I know that because he's mentioned it in both letters. I've also been sending him little word puzzles and any articles that I think he might like. I write him about 2-3 times a week. How many letters have you received?

It was hard to tell how he was doing over the telephone. There was a lot of noise in the backround and he sounded really sick. He also said the division was doing well. I REALLY hope they are all getting along. I actually asked him if he was making friends. I just don't want him to be lonely. Although, it seems like with soooo many other people around, how could you?

Ben's Sis;

What will his A school be?  What job?  How do you know he will be going to Hawaii?  My SR is going to CTN A - School.  We were told no one would know where they were going to be stationed until after school.  Then it would depend on how they did in school - I understood it as they all have a "dream sheet" of where they want to go (depending on what is open) then the top of the class picks first and the ones at the bottom get whatever is left. - ???  But maybe that's just because of my SR's rate.  (rate is what the navy calls their job)

As far as letters go - I have gotten about 2 a week - which surprises me -My son hates to put pen to paper - unless he is writing a song!  That being said he is a great writer but Only when using a computer!!  LOL  I was worried I would not be able to read his penmanship - he was a sloppy writer that's why he only would use the computer! LOL  But, as usual he surprised me!!  His letters are very neat and I can read everything!!! LOL  He did say he didn't have a lot of time to write - he is the division's Chaplin and 'works' on Sundays so didn't have much time to write. I am glad he is now able to write on Tues and Thurs also! His letters are now more than 2 short paragraphs!!  He said he is making some great friends but...  that he is more interested in studying and learning what he needs to know than socializing - he just wants to get thru bc and "start his life"!  This made me chuckle as his A school will be tough!!  They will need to study, study, study every night!  It is a pretty demanding school!  I just hope he can stay focused!

How long was your brother in the DEP?  My SR waited for 9 months for bc!  I thought it would never come and now we are just a few wks away from PIR!  I cant wait to see him!

I was just about to ask how she knew where he was going already! My daughter said the exact same thing you did...no one knows until after school. She is just like Ben's Sis, striking for a job, as she went in undeclared. She just wanted the first opportunity to get outta here, didn't care about the job!

We have 2 Navy friends who retired after 20 years and she drilled them like mad, to make sure she wouldn't regret it. One of them actually encouraged it, because if they aren't positive about what they want to do, at least they get to "try" different jobs, and then strike/apply for them, unlike what other sailors go thru. It takes them less time to switch jobs, than it would someone going in with a declared job (like, if they hated their job).

She asked for prayers to be sent to her so she can read at night, however, didn't someone say they can request a sailor's bible or something? Could have sworn I read that somewhere in the last year lol

CMom, The Navy fast-tracked him. The first time we went to the recruiter was around Thanksgiving. I think he did MEPs around the middle of January(?). He's older though (22) and he has about 2 years of college. By the time he graduates he'll be an E-3, which I think is about 2 levels higher than most SRs. He was given 3 options on where to be stationed. One was Hawaii and one was San Diego. I don't remember where the other one was.

I still don't know what he'll be doing for his job. I don't think he knows either. Hopefully, I'll get a letter or a call this week. Fingers crossed!
