Welcome Carolyn to the site. Is your son in Division 139 or 140 they are brother divisions. My son is 25 and is first time away from home. I know by his letters it has helped him become a man. Yes we are wearing Navy Blue Scarfs to PIR. Checking where you live it stands to reason you will be driving. We are from Calif so we will be flying there. Well keep us posted on his letters and we will do the same. What is your son's job in the Navy? Will he have to go off to A school? My son will be a Machine repairman and he will stay in Great Lakes for A school. talk to you later.

Thanks for the note!  My son is in 140.  He is grad 'n go, so we'll only have 8 hours with him graduation weekend.  He says he wants to come home, sit around with family and friends and order his favorite local deepdish pizza!  He'll be a seabee and is going to A school in California. How funny are boys are doing A school in each other's home states!  His Dad and some extended family members live in California too, so he's looking forward to seeing them while he's out there.

How far do you live from boot camp? That would be cool if he could go to the house and hang out. Yes that is strange how the boys are switching states for A school. I just cant wait to see them all.

So carolyn...will you give us clues on where to get the best Chicago food? I do not eat out much but love food and am drooling already over the treat of Chicago food! Even tho our son is grad and go to GL, I am staying until Monday hoping for some time. My service dog odi and my Dad are coming with me. See you guys soon! Add me as your friend if you want phone numbers

I found several navy blue scarfs on Amazon. I ordered mine this morning, should be here sometime next week. Haven t heard anything new from my son (no news is good news). I did hear this weekend that one of his closest friends has come home, he couldn't take it I guess. So I was sad to hear that. Probably wont tell my son until after his big day. I am happy to see we have another mom joining us. Welcome Carolyn, this is a very informative and supportive group.

what did you order if you dont mind a copycat as I have not ordered yet

I need the same information too, please
I just went on Amazon and ordered a cashmere navy blue scarf from Lands End - was 27.97 then shipping but I was tired of putzing around. Funny how small things seem like a big deal. Thanks guys for support and sure hope all our SRs stay healthy and fit
I didn't know what kind of scarf to order, since I don't know what the weather will be like I choose something for spring / summer. It was $19.00 plus shipping. The name of the scarf is "Azuri Navy Silk Chiffon Scarf". They had some 100+ colors to choose from. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hi Div 140 ladies!

I got 4 letters yesterday! The guys received the banner my son's 1st grade class made and I got 3 thank you notes to share with the class. They all said very nice supportive things to the kids and I took the letters in today to share with the class. They are busy preparing for spring break so I left them with the teacher to read to them later today. So I apologize I did not write down the names before I took them in. I remember a Cameron, initials JLA and oh don't remember the other. It was very sweet of the recruits to write back to the class. One told them to stay in school and get good grades and maybe they can do what he is doing - protecting our country. Another said learn what he learned to eat right so you have enough energy.

The teacher was so impressed she asked if they could make another banner for them and we could take it to graduation. If that happens I guess you will all know who I am lol.

Apparently the RDC's were impressed too and let the guys hang it in their office. I knew they wouldn't be able to really display it, but this way they all get to enjoy it a little. That's just awesome.

My recruit says today is the big PFA (?) test and he really needs to pass the run or be held back. We haven't talked to him in over 3 weeks and now I kinda hope I don't hear from him today thinking he will only be able to call with bad news.

From watching the battlestations info I gather this division will go the first night next Thursday. And if they don't pass the 1st night they can be put in with other divisions until they do pass. So really my guy needs to pass the run today. After that everything will be great. I can't wait to see him in 2 weeks. It can't get here fast enough.

My lil guy was so excited to get the letters yesterday and my oldest said his fellow recruits are calling him the unsung hero of the division and can't wait to get pictures withhim at graduation. When I told him that he was a hero he said in a real small voice 'wow.' so cute! It's amazing what a piece of paper can do!

Just had to share and when I get the letters back from the teacher I will post "names."

I remembered a lil something about third recruit to write. B- something. And he's from our hometown here in Charlotte NC. So the boys probably flew out together on Feb 22nd.
That is so cool! I bet that makes your childs class mates feel like a million bucks! I hope you will bring a banner to PIR. That way we know who you are. Let me be the first to thank you and your child (as well as all of their classmates), as a mom who knows those SR's need all the encouragement they can get. That is just terrific.

I haven't received a letter since last Thursday. So I am hoping today. I too am concerned about the PFA today. My son wasn't in the greatest physical shape when he left. But he says that he is progressing well with the PT and I believe him. So I am hoping no phone call today. That way I know he has passed.

Can you believe we are already talking Battle Stations? Wow! The time has gone by so fast. I cant wait to get the I am a sailor call. I have found I think everything there is to find online to help me understand what it is they have to accomplish. And the more I read the more at ease my mind is. I am so excited not only for my son, but also for all of you who are sharing in this with me.

I will be sure to mention the banner to my son in my next letter or phone call. Again a big thanks from Nevada.
