My son signed his contract last November and his ship out date of 8/8/2011 seemed so far away.
Now, not so much! The time is flying by! He graduates high school in early June then leaves for a church choir trip (to Chicago, no less!) and then a mission trip.
It is becoming VERY real as the days fly by. And I am feeling a distinct ache in my chest.
I like to write, so I started a blog to help me sort out my feelings.
How are you all doing as your child's departure date grows closer?
hugs to all~Dale (Ian's mom) ♥
Here's my blog if you care to take a peek. http://sonandsea.blogspot.com/

Hi~ Looks like our sons will be in boot camp at the same time! My son is going to be a Nuke. Where is your son's A school. My son will be in Charleston, SC.
I started a blog about this Navy journey...

:)
My son leaves the same day. This morning it really hit me. All the mixed feelings Im so proud and sad all at the same time.
ZZsMom~ I see you're in Weatherford. I'm in Allen! Our kids might travel to Great Lakes together!!! How cool is that??
They will be gone before we know it! My son is getting pretty excited (though he is trying to cool). Tomorrow he is helping his recruiter out at Navy Week Air Show in Fort Worth!
I was looking at my son's contract last (1st time to re-look at it since Nov. when he signed) and I got a lump in my throat.
How old is your daughter? What rating is she signed for? My son is going to nuke school.
take care! ♥
ZZsMom~ My son had a great time at the air show. I didn't get to go, darn it!
My son worked in the funnel cake booth with his recruiter.
Where will your daughter go for A school? My son will be in Charleston, SC.
Hey, are the wildfires near you? I hope not!!!
Ah, Pensacola ~ nice! Far, but not too far for visiting! My son's school is 2 years. I like Charleston, but it is pretty far. I'm sure we'll visit, but I wish he was going to be closer.
Glad the fires are a bit away from you! It is pretty awful and I am definitely praying for the firefighters and all in the danger zone! Hope your co-worker's home is safe!!!
Scary stuff!
♥
Sounds like there's a chance your son and I will end up going to Charleston at the same time. I'm set to ship out Aug 17, and I can't believe how fast it's coming now! I depped in way back in July, with an original ship date of March 2011, but changed rates and got pushed back to August. The last 8 months or so have seemed to drag by, but now that it's down to where I can count it in weeks, time is flying!
Tell your son I said hello! Do you know what rate he's hoping to get? (MM/ET/EM) I can't decide which to request, they all sound pretty interesting.

P.S. I know I'm not a Navy Mom, but this is the only site I've found that actually answers all of my questions! The sense of family and support that's here is awesome. My own mom is dead set against me joining the military, so I think I'll pretend for a little while that all of you awesome moms are mine!
Hi Nukette (GREAT name BTW)~ Yep, sounds like you will be at school together! Cool! Yes, it is getting closer by the minute!! Are you running, etc? My son is, but not as much as I think he should! :(
My son is hoping to get MM because he likes to be hands on, but he is cool with any of the 3 possibilities. He is very handy and can fix just about anything. He's not afraid of hard work (but I am! LOL!).
I'll tell him hi from you. He goes to http://www.navydep.com/forums/index.php . Not as great as N4M, but you should check it out.
Sorry your mom is not onboard with your decision, but hopefully she will come around. I have 3 sons and 1 daughter, so I am all about more girls! I'll be glad to be a pretend mom! ♥
Congrats and thank you for your decision to serve!
Hi Nukette, my oldest son is in the Nuke program and just graduated power school in April and on hold till ???.. He'll find out later where Prototype will be.. A school & power school is very hard and time consuming!! In the avg. day school would start at 7am till around 3-4pm then go for supper and go back to study by 5-5:30 till about 10pm. So be prepared for long study periods!! He is a MM.. He was home for Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years Day!! Please don't hesitate to ask me questions!
