Next time I will go to the post office near where I work, there is a nice lady with a son who just got out of the navy there. She was so nice when I sent John his computer. She asked all about what school he was going to and how long would he be in, she said that she wished her son would have stayed in.
I do think it depends on your post office, I have one near my house that I always avoid due to lack of service and cranky employees. Every box you ship from there seems to be an issue where the one five miles away, everything is good!

I had heard from others that some post offices will make you remove the "any sailor" from the label so I'm including a note inside the box for "any sailor" just in case.
Hi Marquetta, we are delighted that you have joined us and our sailors in Afganistan will also be delighted to hear from one more Navy Mom! I took this line right out of their original request for you...

Some of the troops have asked about getting dvd movies, games or other forms of entertainment to help them relax. Some still need basic hygiene items, and of course just a letter or card can go along way in lifting both the morale and hearts of the troops. Some cannot call home and ask if there are ways of getting AT&T calling cards so they can talk to their families.

When did your son leave for boot camp? Are you doing okay? Hey...I live in the south too...do I get to add redneck after my name?!! lol
While my sailor is home, we put together a box for our August guys ! He didn't have first hand knowledge of what they would like. But It was good to see him get involved ! We did a food box again ! Next months I am going to try to get creative ~ Me creative ? LOL LOL LOL LOL Poor September sailors LOL LOL LOL LOL
next month will be time to send holdiday decorations and if you can find or order the the boxes of holiday cards. Last letter we got from Iraq asked for those static cling decorations.....I can just see those big bad jeeps with pilgrims and turkeys sticking on the windows.
I was in Sam's club yesterday and they had the Halloween stuff out already!I'm sure they all will be putting out thanksgiving and Christmas stuff soon.
I bought four pounds of hard candy as it seems to be requested often by our sailors in Iraq and Afganistan due to the dust. On one site, I read that they requested that we bag them in small ziplock bags so they can hand out a treat bag to the sailors. It only took a few minutes to do and I filled one box almost by itself with candy.

Just sealed my boxes up today, not sure I can make the post office before they closed but I feel good that they are sealed and ready to ship.
Oh Mary thats so cute ! What a great idea .
I had not thought of Holidays ~ our poor babies alone on the holidays. Oh we are going to have to get them holiday things :) You dont think it would make them feel bad missing home if we did holiday things do you ?
send ketchup

article
It was funny to have Colton put together a box for these guys~ i think he really got into it. he even wrote on a card *to my shipmates*
Anyway it just so happen that the same day we were putting the box together I got a letter from one of my BC recruits. He just looked at me and said ~ummm how involved with the navy are you mom ~ lol it was priceless. I told him he was no longer my only sailor I now have over 4000 sailors I call mine, then he asked *are they all coming for x-mas* LOL LOL LOL
he gave me a hug later and said you are a good navy mom~ BZ :) put a wee tear in my eye
fyi

Okay, I had this really neat idea to grab a bunch of mini pines from the lake house when I come back through Minn. Toss those little lights on them and ship around holidays....

no can do, ....if Ship is out of US waters (not sure what that means)
but, can use any company or florist that ships apo (I think that is the word)
Shell, I think we could send the small fake ones that are decorated . you can pick them up at big lots or the dollar general stores cheap. I have a bunch of xmas lights that I bought for a dollar last year I can send. I am looking for boxes of Christmas cards to send them so they can send them home to friends and family.
