My husband's PIR is May 6, and I'm not sure what is appropriate attire. I know dressy casual is the norm. Do people wear nautical style of clothing (colors, accessories, etc.) or is that too cheesy?

I didn't notice alot of nautical clothing there last Friday, but the dress mostly to me seemed very casual.  There was a couple of girls in dresses... or rather tube tops wrapped around their body. :o)  But, overall, most people wore jeans and and a decent shirt and coat or even dress pants.  I personally wore Jeans and a long white pea coat.

I dont' think nautical would be cheesy if that's what you chose.  No one will notice your clothes..... trust me.  The moment is so amazing, everyone is glued to the floor looking for their sailor.  It's an experience you'll never forget.  Enjoy!

Maggie Jean- If you are comfortable in that then YUP! Just remember your Sailor is in his dress unifrom all day and all weekend. So you might want to consider that when it comes to what you are wearing. How will the photo look.   Congrats
LOL, my SR grads on April 29.  & I have the same problem, falling!!   Also my mom (Grandma) will be with us, & she is a faller as well.  LOL  My husband will have alot of work on his hands!   Enjoy, I absolutely can't stand to wait another day!!!   but am a little bummed he is flying out to So. Oh yeah hat least have a light wieght item to cover your arms incase you get cold.  and it can also be your seat cushion for the metal bleachers.

If you plan to go to Chicago bring warm clothing... lol it gets pretty cold during this part of the year. :)

Also, there's a new bus service that makes a round-trip from Great Lakes to Chicago. (www.navytourchicago.com)

My son graduated April 29, 2011.  Its dress casual.  I wore some comfy dress pants and a  nice shirt.  Some people were in jeans and a nice shirt.  Just remember, you want to look awesome in the pics with your sailor.  My son took great pride in how he looked!  PIR was so amazing, you will enjoy it for sure.  Your sailor will be tired for sure, but will enjoy seeing the family!  Good luck.  And yes, they said it was 70 on SAT when we to Chicago, but it was cold to me!
