Cruisinkitkat: thank you! I have been hearing wonderful things about Coronado and I'm looking very forward to a change of environment. My husband was in division 811, he said there were a lot of recruits going for Seals in that division. He did tell me that being in that new division there are a lot of recruits going for air sea rescue.
NavyWife: I just talked to a friend whose son graduated last weekend. He was in a 100 div, but his A school is at GL. Our sons will stay at GL also for pre-buds. She said he moved to his new ship right after graduation, then called at 5:30 to be picked up. He had to be back by 9pm, but wanted to be back by 7:30 to be safe. He had to get up around 6am to sign out and had until 9pm on Sat. Sun they had until 10pm. Hope this helps.
Shell: That information helps a lot, thank you. When he first got to BC I was told his Buds Prep was going to be for 3 weeks at GL. Now I'm being told at least two months. He also told me that he would be able to have liberty on the weekends when he is in Buds Prep. I wasn't sure if the RDCs were just telling him that or if it was really true. I am definitely looking forward to him having liberty after graduation
Take what you hear but do not plan by it, things change depending on the needs of the Navy. Some stay in GL for pre-buds longer than others depending on many things, do not stress just enjoy the ride and be fleixble.
As far as liberty with what is going on they may shorten it or make changes to it. What happens at one PIR will not always be the same at the next one, make sure you have them back early as they have to walk from the drop off area to their ships and they need time to do that. If they report back late the whole division can lose liberty.
navywife: my son is going SWCC and will be doing preBuds also. It is 8 weeks according to his buddy that was a few months ahead of him. her son said his buddies in the 800 div said it sucks (it's only been one day!). I told her that's why they have sayings like "Embrace the Suck" and "The only easy day was yesterday"! my friend said her son can have his cell phone/laptop now at his A-school and she talks to him every day! not sure if it will be different for our 812 guys or not. she suggested bringing the phone/laptop to graduation since they get lockers and can store them if they can't use them right away. she also said her son went with t-mobile due to having a contract with the Navy and it sounded like the way to go. they will just deduct the payments from your paycheck so you don't have to worry about paying the bill.
btw - is that a picture of your husband with you? if so, you should remove his face from the site.
Thank you for your insight. It's been very helpful. And thank you for the tip about my picture, I'm new to the site so I'm still trying to learn all the dos and donts about the website.
For those that stay at GL for pre-buds they may be able to get their phones and laptops PIR weekend and take them back on base on Sunday but do not count on it, some RDC's allow it but some do not. If they are allowed to they may not have access to them right away either. Plan for it but realize it may change and you may have to mail it to them.
Some of the guys think BC and pre-buds are easy and others think it is hard. For every person it is a different experience based on many things and for some they may just want you to think it is hard so that you will feel sorry for them.
The length in pre-buds varies depending on many things, it is supposed to be 8 weeks but it can be shorter or longer. They will see some guys drop in GL and decide to go another direction, they will see some not make times.
