So some of the people on Y!A are vague and I really just wanted to hear some stories about your son or daughter and their battle with weight before joining. I really just need to hear stories like that to stay motivated. I have to either lose 60 pounds to make weight, or 40 pounds to make tape.

please include all details you can like, how much weight did he/she have to lose, how long did it take them, and What they do in the navy. Thank you.

I forgot to say that my family has been using MS. Dash salt-free seasoning on just about everything!  I have about 6 or 7 different flavors!  Also, my boys can't stand diet or low-cal dressing so on their salads they are still using regular dressing but only using about 1/3 of what they used to use.  We do use Fat Free Cheese also, my older son likes the Cheddar.

My son wants to go into EOD.  He is also interested in SeaBees and a few others.  He qualified for everything he is interested in but it depends on what is available when he goes back to weigh on May 5th. I told him that he will probably go back and they will measure him again and say "We made a mistake, you really are 6' 1 1/2".

Hope this helps!  Good luck!

Just a thought:  Have you looked at Weight Watchers?  They give out this handy little calculator when you sing up....they measure everything by points and will give you the number of points to eat each day in order to lose weight.  The calculator will measure protein, fiber, carbs and fat of a food and give you the point value.  The basic program is to keep you on a high protein, high fiber, low carb diet.  It's very easy to figure out......you can sign up, get the start-up package....(.be sure to have them teach you how to use the calculator at the first meeting.) and then figure out how to do everything yourself.  There's a charge to register and a charge for every meeting you attend.  But with just going to 2-3 meetings you can learn all you need to in order to follow their program.  It's really easy and it works!
I just wanted to give an update.  My son has now lost 14lbs in 3 weeks!  He is exercising and eating well, not starving.  My 14 yr old has lost 9 lbs and I have lost 8.  This is kinda blah but it really works!
My daughter was about 20 lbs overweight, but they taped her and she wa at 32% body fat. Since then she works out with a personal trainer. I am not very fit, so she needed a professional to guide and teach her. It has been a very expensive sacrifice from our household budget, but very well spent. Twice a week she does strength training and once a week we do kickboxing together. She also works out at the YMCA every day on the treadMASTER, not treadmill. She is now down 15 pounds and text in the outstanding range on the PRT.  There is a website I found that supposedly gives you the "NAVY" bmi calculations.
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ is the website given within the Navy Recruiting Manual.  It is used when a potential Recruit is underweight; I don't know about if overweight--I know they measure then.
What was your daughter at before she left if you don't mind me asking? I want to sign up now but honestly, I need to get in shape... lol.

Jog, then move up to running. Distance runners train. Start with a training schedule. You can google this. But if you do not eat well, it really won't happen as quickly, and you will not have any energy. Also start to weight lift. It will help you burn more resting calories. Start low and work your way up with this also.

http://www.weight-lifting-workout-routines.com/.....and remember, it takes time....you didnt gain this weight in a month, you are not going to lose it in a month either. But you have to start somewhere!!!

Good Luck!!!

Just an update, my son has now lost 16 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks and has gone from 27 BMI to 24 BMI..  He was told at MEPS in April that he needed to either loss 10 pounds or 2% body fat. He goes back to MEPS next Tuesday to be re-weighed.  The diet we are eating (really just eating extremely clean - watching fat, carbs, cholesteral, sugars and sodium), drinking lots of water and being more active.  It has not been easy but it really helps to keep you going when you step on the scale and see the progress.  I have lost 10 lbs and my younger son has lost about 8 or 9 ( he really didn't need to lose weight but I put the whole family on the diet.

Good Luck!

i have the same issue. i go to boot in july and i need to drop 50 pounds. im workin hard tho.

wanna stay motivated? jus remember that uv only got one shot. thats it. remember that it doesnt matter if it sucks, u jus got to do it.

i started running/ jogging in the morning but im sick right now so i stopped.

if u r a depper then start PTing. it says we dont have to but u NEED to. it sucks but if u cant do it or wont do it then the navy isnt for u cuz its gonna b like that for the rest of ur career.

would u rather have it suck now or at boot? id rather have it suck now to b honest haha

another thing, it gets better as u get into shape, u start to enjoy running or push ups and sit ups and the mountain climbers, eventually ur body will litterally start craving the excersize :]

im not sayin all this to discourage u, im sayin it cuz u gotta do work and get it down cuz otherwise its jus gonna have all been for nothing. (thats how i get thru it)

Here is my daughter s story: She joined last year...she had to lose abound 50 lbs to make Nepal..the weight and bmi. We join nutrisystems for her and she did the hcg briefly...She lost all the weight. Her recruiting office had some of the recruits and those sailors on leave work out with het daily. She did cardiovascular twice a day for a hour...did what equals the insanity workout daily...she did running and basically the exercises done in bootcamp. She us now a size 10, in het A school doing very well. Try your recruiter and see what he has to offer. Hope that helps. She also did not eat after 6.
heres mine: first off... i just got done with MEPS last month. they changed BMI standards to 36%   I am 35%.   I have been trying to  make weight for a veryyy long time, even thought ive only tried for Navy since January.  basically, i jusst watch what i eat.   i currently weigh 165 lbs ( 10 lbs over my limit, im 5'4".), but my chest is pretty big, which frustrated my recruiter since if it wasent so big ( DD or so), i would be well under the weight i had too.   I swear in on Thursday and ater that  i start workin out with DEP.   honestly, i know EVERYONE has said it, but the best thing you can do is watch what you eat and work out and believe me... i HATEEEEEE running, so if your like that i dont blame you.   also... biggest thing i noticed(and honestly the oNLY thing i changed about my diet, NO SODA... at all. or alcohol.) if you dont like water, get crystal light packets. they are 0 calorie.

the Navy doesn't go off of BMI. Navy does body fat. Big difference.
