While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Moving to Pensacola, FL...BAH questions...help!
Ok, so my fiance graduated boot camp on 5/6/11 and he is now in P-cola for AIRR. He said they are on hold for classes so he's expected to be there probably until the end of the year at least. What I need to know mainly is about BAH. He is going through the beginning paperwork (CHIT?) for us to get married as soon as possible. Since we are not yet married, and he can't live off base during Aschool, I am just moving down there at our own expense. My main question is....once we are officially married, will he be given BAH for an apartment that we are getting off base. I really don't understand everything fully. I have read several different things...one telling me one thing and then another, but he says as soon as we are married we will get the BAH to compensate for the apartment we are getting. I really just need some info ladies! & if you have any suggestions or ways to correctly go about this...please feel free to help!
Also, if anyone is looking to move to Pensacola, FL or is already there looking for roommates...I am interested!!

Yes, when you are married you will get BAH to compensate for living off base. It takes a few pay cycles to kick in, but you will get it.

Devyn, when you say your fiance is getting the paperwork for you to get married as soon as possible, are yall going to go to the JOP or try to have a wedding in FL? I'm asking for selfish reasons.. haha. I'm going through the same thing. My boyfriend is in A school and will graduate in September, and then go back to FL for C school after a 2 week leave. I can't move with him though, I'm a teacher. Anyways, hope it works out for you! :)

as far as I understand Jess is right, when you're married you become his dependent and bah is one of the ways the military takes care of you even if he's still living on base. What is your fiance in A school for?? My husband is in bootcamp right now, but I just keep hoping his classes will start fairly quickly to him getting down there. I'm not looking to move with him to A school. As much as I wish I could, we've got two little girls, and my husband is going for AC and it's suppose to be a fairly hard A school, I don't want him to have too many distractions. How much liberty does your fiance have while his classes are on hold??

annamichael & esther- he is originally from the beach in Alabama about 30 minutes from Pensacola. & We've always had a long distance relationship. He is at Aschool for AIRR, aviation rescue swimmer, and will probably have his orders for the first of the year. We orginially planned to have a beach wedding at his parents house sometime in September/October, but now for financial reasons, we think it may be easier just to go to JOP now and still have our wedding in the fall. But being that I'm your traditional girl, I wanted the perfect wedding and not for that special day to start at the JOP. But I don't want us to have to pay for a place out of pocket for months when we need to be saving as much as we can! :/ and esther, he got liberty for the first day he was there after processing, and is phasing up this week so I'm getting to go down and see him this weekend. -

i know what you mean about a wedding! i wanted the same, but we did the papaer work in our pastors home so it could be processed quickly, then had a very small, less than 100 people wedding at his parents house. it wasnt my dream wedding, but it was memorable. i hope you can do soemthing you love! and im movin to FL too, send me a friend request and ill give you some great info!

I do have an apartment. It is AustinWood Apartments and they are behind the base. Very close. I can't wait. I move in June 10th. I am excited for you too!

I am moving into Austin Wood a week from today!! cant wait to be with my husband again!! hubby says the apts are nice, and that they have nature trails and lots of areas for our toddler to play at. We've heard from a few ppl that during Aschool you get to keep the BAH from your home town.. which would be awesome cuz Pcolas is kinda low. Guess ill find out if thats true soon.
Devyn, I hope everything works out for you! I have a friend on facebook who hubby is same rate, she moved to Pcola in January, they got married in Feb. She still hasnt started recieving BAH and he still hasnt gotten his Brown Bagger Status to live with her!! Hopefully its failure on his part! my hubby has only been there about a month and already got things rolling -

Things like paperwork can take time, and the sailor has to stay on top of things to make sure someone didn't make a mistake. New sailors are often afraid to be squeaky wheels, but they have to do so when it comes to pay, allowances and benefits.
You get BAH for where the sailor is stationed, he has to give them a physical address. If the Navy overpays you for several months and catches it on an audit, they will take back the overpayment in ONE LUMP SUM. It sucks, it sucks hard. So if you move to P-cola and still receive a higher rate from elsewhere, you had damn well better get your sailor's butt to PSD and get it straight. (overseas is different if unaccompanied, they get it for where their dependents live in the US) -

My 2 year old daughter and myself are moving to Crystal Lake Apartments on the 27th :) We really wanted Austin wood but the rent was pretty pricey for the amount of BAH we would receive in Pensacola(if it changes).
