lisarobin, Still too cold to go to the beach here in New Jersey unless, of course, if it's Atlantic City, always fun.  Are you near the ocean?
Hey Sam's Mom...sorry I've been packing and cleaning. Got to have a clean house before I leave...We are in GA going to Tybee which is about 6 hours away. As far as cold, it has been in the 80-90's last couple of weeks during the day. However, today the high was around 63 so I'm hoping it will be warmer when we head down that way. Blackberry winter as they call it is going on but should be over soon. My son is excited so I guess cold or not here we come. :.)
My grandson is sleeping in the crib and my DEP is snoozing on the couch.  I should be getting prepared for his Anchors Aweigh party tomorrow, but decided to sit and enjoy the quiet of them sleeping.
That is sweet Midwest Mom...yes I think you got it right. The party will come together... take some time to enjoy them. :.)

Take time to enjoy the day tomorrow.  I know it will be bittersweet.

Hi all, my daughter will depart for BC on June 27 from Columbus, Ohio, although we are from Illinois.

Hello Btown Sandy! Welcome to our group! We are from all over. I'm from GA others...from south, midwest, and North.

Hi Btown Sandy,

I'll be leaving for Great Lakes from New York City on the same day.  Looking forward to starting!  :)

Cheers,

/Alex

Btown Sandy, Welcome. We are from northern New Jersey and our son will be leaving from Fort Dix in centeral Jersey.

Lisarobin, Wow. 80's and 90's already.  We were complaining last week when it got to 70 here.  That sounds like July weather to us. Hope you are enjoying your time at the beach with your son.

Btown Sandy, Welcome!  We've got you added to the calendar.  I was a June mom until 4 weeks ago when my son was offered an earlier leave date so I'm now in a hotel with my husband waiting to see our youngest sworn in tomorrow morning.  I really thought I was ready for this and he is SO excited and in a great frame of mind...but it is hard.  Not going to sugar coat it, ladies, it is hard.  I am so happy for him and proud of the young man he is, but I still want to hold him tight to me and not let him go.  I keep fighting tears and I really want to be strong and just smile for him, but the tears keep falling!  Ugh!

Well, I know have a SR!  We booked a hotel room near the one he stayed at and were able to spend several hours with him last night.  Saw him swear in around 10ish this morning and we again got to spend a little time with him, but said our final good byes there.  It was better today.  The tears still fall, but I'm really fortunate because I know this is what he wants and I am so happy for him. He was so ready to go and start this new adventure.  We drove home and I put his phone charger in his room and there on his bed was a card addressed to us and a necklace.  Sooo sweet!  Made me burst into tears again!  He wrote a long note to us and now I have a Navy blue cross necklace to wear close to my heart for the next 8 weeks that I can touch when I'm thinking and praying for him.  He's a good kid.  He'll be a great sailor!
Hey, regarding the final swearing in...for those of you who can't go, don't beat yourselves up too much.  I think there were more than a dozen swearing in to the air force, army and navy today and only three of them had parents attend!  I am VERY happy we were there, but if you need to save vacation time to go to PIR, don't beat yourself up because you can't be there to see them swear in.  I was expecting a lot more people, but apparently most said their good byes at the recruiters office.  They do a lot of running around there...lots of hurry up and wait!  And as parents/family, you just sit in the visitors room and try to get glimpses of them going from room to room.  If you can go, do it!  If you can't, your recruit will survive because most were already on their own.  Good luck!
