That is a good Mom!  Mine thinks it won't be that big of a deal not getting much mail but I don't think he realizes that it will be his only communication except for a call now and then.
I know he will feel differently once he gets in.  There is no use arguing with him though. I just pray he is mentally prepared.
MidwestMom - those are all great tips i didn't think of.  That's why I need N4M.
Not much longer now, LisaRobin and Sam's Mom.  How are you sleeping?  I tried to be prepared, but those last few weeks I had problems sleeping and when I did sleep, he was always in my dreams.  Some nights I couldn't even tell what was dream and what part of the night was just me laying there thinking of him.

Yes last night was rough. All I was thinking was well vacation is over and now the time is very close. I didn't get much sleep thinking about it. Of course, he would be mad at me if he knew I was laying awake worrying about him. ;.)

GREATEST THING IN ALL THE WORLD!!!  My husband called and we have the form letter!  I am doing the happy dance.  Anyone else would think I'm crazy, but I know you will all understand!  He's graduating 7/8 which is a week earlier than I expected so he must have finished up a division and jumped right in.  He won't even be there a full 8 weeks.  I'm shocked! :)

So, our experience was he arrived on Tuesday, got the call at 8:25 that evening, The Box arrived Friday (3 days) and letter arrived Monday (6 days).  That was a pretty fast turn around time, but we are just one state away.  He sounded upbeat and said the hardest thing to do was not laugh when the RDC was screaming in someone's face (and that he hadn't been yelled at yet!)  It is a really good day!

That's great news.  Any kind of timeline is welcome.  I haven't seen Sam in three weeks, he hasn't come home on weekends lately. He just finished exams on Friday and has a showing of his final today (movie he wrote, produced and directed at school). he's been working very hard on it and is up for local awards.  I was happy to have the time away from him - his mood had been so bad. He'll be home in a day or two then we have less than two weeks with him.  He is getting so excited and I am excited for him but I know, like most of you, I won't be sleeping for these last two weeks and probably not for eight weeks after that.  Right now I'm just obsessing that I have forgotten something he needs even though I know the Navy will take care of everything. I hope they know how hard this is for us. lol
I know it must have been hard not seeing your son but it sounds like he has had alot on him. More so than most.  Congrats on the local awards for his movie! Maybe he will be the next Spielberg one day! :.)  By the way, I called an attorney for the POA and Medical POA and it will be the 31st before we can see her and set it up.  Just mentioning it because it is getting down to the wire. At first she said we would have to come back on the 3rd to pick them up but called back and said we could wait that day and she would go ahead and do them. Is there anything else we need to be doing besides getting his direct deposit info everyone?

Midwest- It's nice to hear you are upbeat and happy, it's encouraging because I'm with Sam's mom right now emotionally. He has his last day of classes today and graduates next week. If it weren't for planning the party I would be losing my mind.

He called Navy Federal and set up his acct with me as a joint member. I went to our library research database and found free legal forms...drawing up a health care and financial power of attorney and a simple will. A lawyer friend of mine will look it over for no fee. Someone on N4M suggested doing that.

Now, if I could keep him home for 5 minutes maybe we can sort out his room....

As a habit, bought 4 toothbrushes for our camper for the summer and realized he won't be with us and I only needed 3...it's moments like those where that I can't control the tears no matter how hard I try.

Looking forward to being where you are, MidwestMom.

Hello Midwest MOM! I'm so happy for you! Sounds like everything is working out well. I know you are glad to hear.
midwest my son said that will be his hard part lol not to laugh .....u see my kid is a jokester lol i told him not to think about it how is your son coping with it and congrats on your letter and his accomplishments i know u are so proud
monkeymind ....my son doeant have an account at the time is it easy to set up with navy federal....i went and looked at everything and how much does it take to open an account under military sry for the burst of questions but we are in the short rows now and he cant keep putting it off lol all advice would be greatly appreciated thx
