Don't know if you saw my posting on the PIR 07/01/2011 forum, but I tried to reserve a 2 bedroom suite at the Residence Inn and was told they don't have any more available.  That weekend might be busy (4th of July, special PIR, Great America amusement park is open, etc.) so it is recommended that you make hotel reservations now.  Be sure to understand the cancellation policy just in case - things can change.  You can cancel the Ramada Inn up to 24 hrs prior to check in.

Well that's a bummer.  I did get booked for Residence Inn for 2 bedroom suite, i have 6/30 thru 7/4, but i want to change to 7/5. I'll probably call them and ask if i can change my departure date.  I believe Marriott is the day of before 6:00 p.m.  Good point, they can donate their belongings; mine had his cell phone, so i knew his box was coming home.  He did call me from the bus when he arrived to say he was there, shutting off his phone, i love you and see you soon.

I'm going to keep checking back to see if a 2 br opens up between now and then.  What was the rate for the 2br?  I'm sure the Residence Inn will be happy to extend your stay by a day.  My son did not call me even tho he had his cell :-<  From what I hear, many boxes had mistakes in the address (our son had the totally wrong city for some strange reason! but it was delivered because the zip code was correct).  Maybe something like that happened to your son's box.  It sounds like lots of people are getting letters from SR's in our PIR group.  Fingers crossed we do too!

I did get the box:)  No worries there. Did you try a double bed room?  If something changes and we end up not needing a 2 bdroom suite, perhaps you can have mine.  If it ends up just my sister and I, we will get by with double of even King. At this time my husband is planning on going and/or my older son, which is why we opted for 2 bedroom suite, but that could change.  He has been gone 2 weeks today!

You got the box!?!  Excellent!  That's really sweet of you to offer the 2 bedroom suite if you end up not needing it.  Yes, please let me know if you change your mind.  I reserved 2 rooms at Ramada - 1 King and 1 with 2 Queens.  It will be Dad (ex), older son, my sister and me.  I wonder if our Division is getting along and starting to work as a team.  I can't wait to hear all about the whole experience.  I'm happy for everyone who is getting letters - I really don't think my son will write.  I told him not to worry about writing.  2 weeks already - this will go slow but fast.  Can't wait to get (or hear of) the I'm a sailor call.  That's the biggie.
Hi everyone. it is good to see others with loved onjes in ship 02 div933. I received the box and the letter with his info but that is all. i am really hoping to hear his voice soon. My husband, myself and my youngest son along with his sister are planning to attend PIR. We were planning on being there for the weekend. I hope we get to spend more than one day with him. But I will take whatever I can get. Thanks so much for starting this group. I feel like i have a life line to info now.
Okay I did not realize that 933 div was special, other than having my son in it LOL. Could someone explain?

Welcome Fritzy58!

The 900 Division groups are the "ceremonial divisions" - usually recruits who have band, choir or marching experience.  It is difficult to train recruits for precision marching in just 8 weeks, so they try to use ones that already know what they're doing.  In addition to those "jobs", recruits in a 900 Division also act as guards, body snatchers, door holders, escorts for dignitaries.  (Body snatchers are recruits who watch the recruits at parade rest and grab them before they hit the ground if they look like they're going to pass out.)  They get 4 extra hours of training on Saturdays and they "work" 2 graduations before their own PIR.

My son was in the Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP) since last December, so I've been poking around NavyforMoms and reading/researching as much as possible.  It really helps to understand what's going on and what to expect.  Read back through all the postings on Bootcamp Moms Group.

My Ex, my sister, older son and I plan to attend the Meet & Greet at the Ramada Inn on Thursday night - everyone is welcome to attend even if you don't stay there.  We'll probably return to Florida on Sunday (still have to make reservations).  You do know this July 1st PIR is going to be special - the 100th anniversary of Great Lakes RTC!  They are going to hold the PIR outside - I just hope the weather cooperates.

anyone hear anything yet this weekend or any letters yet? Still nothing my way.  Another Mom who went thru this last year said she thot this being week 3, they probably wrote yesterday (Sunday). I'm hoping i get my first letter from him this week!  I've written so much and had so many questions:) I'm hoping they have started receiving our letters by now.

I spoke with my SR this morning - he called for "business" (needed info) and he did mention that he is getting my letters (and said it really helped to get them) and that he wrote a letter (probably yesterday).  So, yes, I think we'll be getting letters later this week.  I know my son won't write much, but anything is better than this!  I'll let you know as soon I get one - please let me know if you get yours.

Capricorna- how awesome is that!  darn, wish mine had a business need too. As i suspected, i bet our group did not start writing till this weekend liberty. probably due to the 900 series, and extra responsibility.  I do not suspect I'll get a ton of mail either, but probably a note here and there touching base.

on another note, i'm getting the hang of navy for moms, and reading other stuff too.
