We're from SE PA, Bucks County more specifically. Noticing other comments, my son, 21 years old, has no band, marching experience and his singing.....well. Does this division have something to do with their prospective schools after PIR? I have not seen anyone mention where they expect their recruits to be headed after PIR. I know nothing is definite yet, but they all have a goal. Is post PIR talk a no-no. I'm new to this and not sure of proper ettiquette. Please enlighten me....

Where do I find the Meet and Greet time? We'll be there

Hi Wildmom ~

My son had no band, marching or singing abilities that I know of (:->) but from my understanding, they volunteered or were picked to be in this Division.  The 900 Divisions are the "ceremonial" divisions and perform or work behind the scenes at PIR.  Your son might be a rail guard, an escort for dignitaries, a door holder, a body snatcher or many other duties that we don't yet know about.  (A body snatcher is a person who watches the Sailors at parade rest, runs in and catches the ones that are going to pass out.)

As for ettiquette - I don't think post PIR talk is a no-no at all.  Since we really don't know how much time we'll have with our SR or what they'll want to do, there isn't much to talk about.  I am reluctant to post too much personal information because I heard that the RDC (Recruit Division Commanders) troll the NavyforMoms website and try to figure out which mom belongs to which SR.  And, sometimes, when they do figure it out, they give the SR all kinds of grief.  So, to be on the safe side, I'd rather fly under the radar.

There's a PIR Group on N4M that lists restaurants, things to do, etc.  It's  a great resource.  Let me know if you need help finding it.  I also read that Libertyville is a very cute/quaint town to visit and that many people go to the mall in Gurnee.  A Taste of Chicago is happening that weekend in Chicago, so it will be pretty crazy downtown - not sure I or my SR will be interested in fighting the crowds, but if you've never been to Chicago (an awesome city) it is worthwhile to go explore.  If anyone wants some sightseeing ideas, let me know and I'll list them.

Meet & Greet is from 6pm to 8 pm at the Ramada Inn for EVERYONE.  Please do come.  On the name tags, let's put our real name, our N4M screen name and Ship/Division numbers so we can identify each other.  I can't wait to meet you there!

I GOT LETTERS TODAY!  I'm reading and crying...

WOO HOO!!!  I'm so happy for you!!!  I can't wait to hear about what he wrote about.  It makes me want to go home at lunch and check my mailbox...

Is the meet & greet on Thurs or Friday?

I know my son is staying in GL for A-school but as I've read that they have them for 5 hours after graduation for check-in.  I wonder if I will get to see him on Sat.,  I took the day off just in case.

Hi Linaka ~

The meet & greet is Thursday before PIR from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Ramada Inn - everyone is welcome.

I don't know how much time you'll have with your son - best to play it by ear, stay flexible and be ready for anything!  This is an unusual weekend (Centennial, 4th of July and all) so everything might be a bit out of whack.  My son is headed to Pensacola.  We won't know until he gets the tickets.

We got a letter from our son today! Div 933.  He says everything is going well.  He has the job as a body snatcher.  He also told us that he will probably leaving the day of PIR.  Nuke heading to SC.
Welcome Coach!  Today must be letter day!  Too funny that you have a Nuke Bodysnatcher.  So glad to hear you got a letter.

Capricorna- anything today?  If not, you will get it tomorrow. He said he wrote week one, but they could not mail out till this week.  Nothing about a call tho.

Coah- where are you from, State? And Welcome

I am from a little town in northwestern Pennsylvania.  My wife and I are so proud.  I was in the Navy 89-93.  Wish I would have sayed in, I would be retired.  As by my call sign I am a wrestling coach.  I have been reading for a while and finally got the chance to say something.  Thanks for the welcomes!!

Dear Coach,

I'm so glad you joined us.  Like you and your wife, I am SO proud.  Sincere thanks for your service.  I wish I had joined the military when I was younger (like you did).  I think it would have given me the structure and opportunity where I could flourish.  Too late.  Wrestling coach...  hmmm.  I kept score for my high school wrestling team in the day - so I know what a take down is - and a reversal too!  My son signed in December and I have been lurking and reading since then.  N4M is a great wealth of info.  Will you attend PIR?  Will you attend the meet & greet on Thursday night at the Ramada Inn (6 pm to 8 pm)?  I hope so!

Again, welcome - hope to meet you in person.

Yes we plan on attending PIR.  We are staying at the Ramada so we will be there for the meet and greet along with my younger son.
