Thanks for replying....no reason for asking...just curious.   its getting close to time..3 weeks,  my son wants to go, it was his choice, but he isnt preparing himself...as much as he should.  he just keeps saying he can do it! wants us to leave him alone,  we arent pushing him we just tell him its only going to help  HIM at boot camp,  I think he's in some denial that he's actually going, he doesnt want to talk about it much.    any thoughts on this?

here is a good group for you to join to get more info about how to prepare for boot camp and to connect with April DEPers ( If he leaves in May just join the May group) http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinapril
Please try to get him to start running, crunches. push ups. If he is not used to a lot of physical activity, his body may be in for a shock. My sailor worked 2nd shift in a factory for 6 months before he got to BC. and didn't get a lot of exercise except at DEP PT. He passed his PFAs but it wasn't easy at first.

Mine did get hurt at BC and missed his PIR. 9 weeks of BC turned into 14 weeks. Don't know if more exercise would have made a difference, but if a recruit is out of shape and you add exhaustion and intense physical training could be a recipe for an accident.

Most make it through without injury and they are all taken good care of BUT it can never hurt to be as prepared as possible.

Good luck!n
thanks for the info
After 14 weeks of boot camp did he get a new PIR date or what happen
They don't usually have the PIR ceremony if they've been hurt and had to recover on ship5/6. They still have to do battlestations, but they don't march, they just are made sailors and sent on to their school.

Nope, finished out from RCU, did Battle Stations, then the big flood hit Tennessee so his PCS was delayed so he ended up in THU for a few weeks, He actually phased up in THU so he could wear civies.  When he got orders, he flew to Charleston.

He was bummed by that because he had gotten used to civies on liberty and when he got to Charleston, he had to phase up again!!

Never got to see him PIR, A school grad was not a big deal and my DIL sent me a pic so I am going to Power School grad next month.  I am determined to see my "boy" graduate from something!!!

my daughter didn't exercise enough before going to boot camp, now she has miss her PIR graduation and have stress fractures in both legs and other injuries she is in the medical area for who knows how long or if she will be able to continue her running that she needs to pass she is only 49 seconds away from passing it

Sounds a lot like my SR.  I was actually really wondering about what happens with stress fractures.  Do they have to stay until they're healed and then slowly work up to being able to run again?  ... or could they be discharged?  Stress fractures have a long heal time, right?

Ugh... I wish I knew more about everything!

Have you heard anything more from your daughter?

that happen to my daughter she didn't prepare as well as she should have and when she got to boot camp and started doing the strenous exercises and all the marching, she ended up with 5 stress fractures in her legs and feet.  Also be came very amenia, and now has a low heart rate.  She is on Ship 4 in the sick area, trying to recover so she can past her running test only 49 seconds away from passing it.  She has been in this area since June 14th.  They haven't mention her going home yet.  But encourage him to really work out especially in running and swimming.

My son fell on ice at BC in Great Lakes.  They haven't told me if they are sending him home yet or not.  Noone has called me since he has gone back to basic.  Fractured vertebrae and slight concussion.  They held him in the hospital for 4 days before sending him back to basic on light duty.  From what I understand he is in a wheelchair and crutches.  Any ideas???

I understand that there is Con Leave... where they come home to get better then go back and are still under contract.  Or they could medically discharge him all together.

Fyi this post is years old.

Regarding the CON leave, they do not send recruits home to heal, if they decide to keep him they will send him to RCU and his training will be put on hold.

Regarding someone calling you, legally he is an adult and no one will call you to let you know what is up with him, if he gets sent to RCU or is going to be separated, he will be allowed a phone call and it is up to him who he calls.  Due to privacy laws, no one can tell you what is going on with him.

Best to write him letters and ask him what is going on
