Here is a calendar to keep track of when our loved ones leave for BC June 2011. Stole the idea from the Leaving in March group! I tried to go back through the site to get dates from those posted. Help me keep it updated! :)

Our recruiter arranged travel for our son to the hotel the night before swearing in, but once checked in, he was free to leave with us. We'd reserved a room at a nearby hotel (trying not to smother him), but picked him up, grabbed some pizza and went and visited with some relatives that live in that area. We had a nice time, but he started getting antsy around 7 and we took him back to his hotel. He was up at 4 a.m. the next morning and on the bus to go to MEPS at 5 a.m. Not sure he wanted us at his swearing in, but he didn't tell us not to go. As I posted earlier, there weren't many families there, but I was proud to see him swear in and get that last hug before we walked out. You just have to follow their wishes and remember they WILL appreciate you a lot more once they get to BC!
OK, going to bore you all, but getting letters is the best thing EVER! His writing is so legible that I almost didn't think it was him writing...except the things he said were just as if he was sitting next to us, laughing his hiney off. He is loving it. He passed his swim test 'with flying colors' and I was worried because he's never had an official swim lesson. He absolutely is loving BC and his letters were from the first two weeks when it is supposed to be the hardest. Help your DEP's to go in with a positive attitude and smile even when you want to cry. Five weeks from tomorrow he'll be a sailor! I'm already beaming with pride!
Don't kick me out of your group! You guys are going through the roughest part (well, except those first days when they are in BC until you get the official letter), but after that it gets better. It really does! Write, and send any cards you get at their Anchors Aweigh party...they got mail 1 1/2 weeks into BC (Friday) and he said he received 8. :) I still miss him, but he is SO happy he took this path.
Yes, thank you MidwestMom.
I can't tell you how happy that makes me. Posts like this really ease my mind. We still have a few weeks before my son leaves but everytime I read something like this it just makes me feel like this is where we are supposed to be.
I'm also happy for you and your son. There is no better feeling than pride in our children!
Thanks for the info. I'm think we will try to be early and just wait. I will be awake early anyway so I might as well be there right?
Kudos, Sam's Mom - you got me to come out of my creeper "silent" state. :-)
I don't know your son's relationship with his girlfriend, nor do I know your relationship with the girlfriend, but I can definitely speak on behalf of those of us who have significant others about to head to boot camp...and I can speak about long distance relationships, because my fiance is starting his journey Monday, and two and 1/2 years of our relationship has been long distance. :-)
She is probably feeling some pretty raw emotions right now - her boyfriend (your son) is fixing to leave. She probably feels alone and lost. That is really sweet that you had invited her to be a part of the dinner. I would invite her to join the navyformoms site, there are a lot of discussion groups that are dedicated to the wives/girlfriends/fiances, so she would have some people to connect with. She can write to him when you get the address. (I'm not up on my romantic chick-flicks, but there has to be a movie out there about couples writing back and forth). Then before you know it - back to social media :-).
yes it is! the 7th is fast approaching. unfortunately i live about 11 hours away from my fiance, longer from where lisarobin and family is taking him to be sworn in. i was suppose to be on a flight to see him one last time before he left, but i got really sick (germs love me when i get stressed out, and i always get sick) and staying down in florida for the weekend. so, despite having no voice, i'm trying to get my internet/phone/chat time in before he leaves.
the long distance came about when i had to move for a work opportunity - which at first completely stunk, but has turned out to be a blessing, because when we get married, we will have some $ saved up. things always have a way of working themselves out. :-)
i've been feeling all sorts of antsy about fiance leaving. we've been talking about this plan for our future for months, and now it is here! i'm going to be focused on training for a half-marathon, and wedding planning, so hopefully doing both of that will be keeping me busy until the letters start arriving!
enough about me, how are you???
