Is there anyone who lives in driving distance who will be attending the Meet & Greet? If so, would you mind bringing a poster we can hang at the Meet & Greet so the family members of Division 933 can get together - something like: Division 933 - Meet Here! If not, I'll bring it. I think we might have time to visit on Friday morning if they mark off seating areas by division number, but I'm not sure how crazy it is all going to be.
I'm getting excited - not long now!
Capricorna- yes, i am driving from Indpls, and can bring a post board. Unless someone on our blog is closer than I, and wants to grab. I'm hopeful i'll be there earlier enough to get it to Ramada Inn. I have a friend whowent through this last year, same time with her son if we will be in a marked off area at PIR, or just open seating. I checked the Facebook site, only pics last week is June 3rd graduation. There are some good ones of the ceramonial gaurd but our group would not be performing just yet, especailly since they just were fitted for dress whites. I suspect they will probably perform at 6/17 & 6/24 graduatin, and their own.
As far as weight, I'm not sure they're going to gain wait when they have to run in the heat in Parka's! Yes i said Parkas. My SR mentioned last week when I asked him if he gained in any weight, and he said how can i when we're marching all the time, and running, and that they had to run on the hot day in parkas. He didn't seem distraught over it, just said in matter of fact way. 25 days!
Okay. Thanks. We'll see if anyone else steps up to offer to do the poster.
I believe there is no "seating" at the Meet & Greet - just a free for all, which is why I thought we should have some way to gather the Div 933 people.
My son wrote that lots of pix were taken - not just of PIR. I'll keep watching and let everyone know if I see any that could be our guys. BTW - 933 is not integrated - it is all male.
I am so looking forward to PIR!!!
Hi. I can totally agree with you about being proud. My son is in Div. 933. I have only received 2 letters plus the form letter, but that's okay - I knew he wasn't a big letter writer to begin with and I didn't think the Navy would change that. I am so very proud of my son and can't wait to hear the stories about what happened in Boot Camp after he has graduated.
The Meet & Greet is sponsored by the Ramada Inn in Waukegan/Gurnee. It is close to the Recruit Training Center at Great Lakes. The Meet & Greet is open to everyone (not just hotel guests) and is held the Thursday night before each PIR from 6 pm to 8 pm. There is no charge. If you and your family will attend, go to this link and RSVP so they will have an idea of how many people are attending:

Hi. I have to ask...anyone else out there that can write their SR envelope without looking up anything, not even zip code!! I can :) I checked the facebook recruit training command site, the last photos posted were from June 3 gradution. This is a good place to look for photos as sometimes they will post random pics of recruits in training. I've yet to see my son out there, but I check every couple of days for new pics.
22 more days, and I am so READY!
I don't have the address memorized because I made up labels. If I had written the address 35+ times, I'm sure I'd remember it - but since they're not going to be there much longer, I didn't see the need :-> I've been watching the Facebook page for pix of our Division, and am disappointed that there have been none yet - hopefully soon! My son's last letter mentioned that someone was taking lots of pix of them.
I am SO ready for PIR!!! I brought out the suitcase and am starting to pack! I'm worried that once my fingers grab onto my son's arm, I might put holes in his dress whites! That, or they're going to have to pry my fingers off with pliers because I won't be able to let go.
I' m hoping for an early letter today (more likely tomorrow).
19 Letters and 2 calls???!!! MAN ARE YOU EVER LUCKY. I am grateful my son writes once a week for the past 3 weeks! And, the only call I got was for "business" to get biographic info on family and friends. Your son deserves a medal! You two must be close. I'm really happy for you!
This boot camp stuff is a roller coaster - I'm loving the high of inching closer and closer to PIR.
I'm stuck in an office all day and would love to be outside. Have fun mowing!
Ah Ha! Now I understand about the massive quantities of mail... Congrats on your very recent marriage!
It would be really great to hear funny stories if you have time.
