For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

"A" School for IT
Hi....I'm new here so please bear with me because I don't know what I'm talking about...LOL. My son leaves for bootcamp 9/15/11. After he graduates I thought he'd be going to "A" school in the Great Lakes as well because I read somewhere that "A" school for IT was there. Now I'm reading on here that "A" school is in Pensacola for IT. Is there more than one "A" school for IT? I'd appreciate anyone clearing this up for me. Thanks!

Nope, only one IT A school and yes it is in Pensacola. There is a group for that A school. The IT's actually go to Corry Station a smaller base a few miles from the Pensacola base.
To prepare for boot camp check out the Leavin for Boot Camp In September group(You are a member) there is a lot of info there to prepare both of you.

hooray a forum for me!! I am a graduate of the IT A-school! The confusion likely stems from the fact that the old Radiomen school was in Great Lakes, and that was a rate that helped become IT. Also, it might have gotten mixed up with the ET school in GL. I'm JessicaB's son btw :) Hi Mom!

IT A school was temporarily in Great Lakes after Hurricane Katrina, but has been back in Pensacola since 2007. My daughter is also an IT & has been in the Navy for nearly 4 years. Come join our IT Mom's group. Information Systems Technician

Hi Pat and Drugfreenavynerd!!! Can you tell me what IT A-School is like? We're so excited that my son got the job he wanted but he has no idea what it entails. Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. Also, can you tell me how you get there. We're from NY and I know you can't fly into Pensacola but maybe you can tell me the easiest way to get there. Thanks!

There is an airport in Pensacola... PNS... is the airport code. otherwise, fly into New Orleans ...about 2-3 hours, or Atlanta ...about 5 hours drive... my son is in bootcamp right now... left last week Monday... he will also be in Pensacola. Good Luck with everything! It was a very strange experience to all of a sudden have your child leave.
