Good luck, keep reading and communicating here, it will help!

good luck usnavymom....my thoughts and prayers are with ya mine left today
Got you added to the calendar, USNavyMom!  Welcome.  I hope you stay strong today. It is tough...no getting around that!

My son's party was yesterday...wow!...is all I can say. The generosity, kindness and support from family and friends was overwhelming.I've been so occupied planning all of this that I haven't had time to really think. Well, it hit me this morning. We take him to the hotel tomorrow night and he leaves Wednesday.

We have an "Anchors Aweigh" sign in our front yard that I got from Build a Sign (if you don't know about this free service send me a message and I'll tell you it's awesome) and a perfect stranger stopped by our house in his car and gave us a Navy welcome mat for our front door. He said "anyone whose son is going to serve in the Navy deserves one of these"

Oh and most importantly to top off the night...LeBron James was denied his championship. My son was dancing around and hugging everyone. If I haven't mentioned it, I'm from the Cleveland area. Not much to cheer about around here lately so that was icing on the cake after the party.

Went to recruiters & got his ship/div! Sent him letter. Recruiter said we should be getting form letter any day. No grad date yet tho. I get no box either. He decided to wear old clothes & trash them. He left his phone with me after the he was sworn in.

Anyone who got to Great Lakes on Wed get the form letter yet?

My son left 1st thing this morning from albany. We said are good-bye's yesterday. Myself, his best friend and gilfriend all had the chance to go out for a great dinner then back to the hotel to say good-bye's. He was due to leave for the GL's this morning at 5:00 am.Should be arriving tonight at about 8:00pm, what a long day. Not a dry eye in my car on the way back home! I prayed this morning for his strengh, courage, and emotional well being. I'm ok today but I'm sure it will be an emotional couple of months!!
My son arrived in GL on a Tuesday and we received The Box on that Fri and form letter on Mon--but those times were really fast and 10 days to get the form letter is more common.  We received his first real letter 2 weeks and 2 days after he arrived in BC.  Plan on them not being able to write until the second Sunday after they arrive...and it could be as late as the third Sunday if they spend more time in processing waiting for their division to form (especially those that arrive late in the week).  We received the first phone call 3 weeks and 2 days after he arrived.  Some get phone calls earlier, but his RDC is pretty tough.  I don't expect another phone call until after BS which will be the week of graduation.  If they earn another one, that will be icing on the cake.  Those were my times...yours can be a lot different.  Some divisions get a lot more phone calls.
Wow midwest mom thats a long time to recieve a phone call and a letter. Like I said in my original blog this is the very toughest thing I've ever had to do is let go. How were the letters from your son when you recieved them? Does he seem to be doing ok? The not knowing is the hardest part as I'm sure we all feel that way.
Not knowing IS the hardest part and technology has made communication so easy that we don't know what to do once we've lost that instant contact.  My SR is doing well.  He's got a bit of a cold, but that is really common.  BC is a giant petri dish.  His letters were much more positive than we were expecting, but some have a hint of missing family and home, but that's OK.  I'd hate to think he didn't miss us at least a tiny bit!  :)  The first time he wrote, he wasn't allowed to write any more than just Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day), but the next week he wrote on 5 different nights so we had pages and pages to read, plus he'd returned two of my questionnaires.  This is all a bit retro...going back to the good ole days when people wrote letters instead of FaceBook and texting!
i know what you mean even tho my son just left ... i sat down today and hand wrote him his 1st letter even told him this is what a hand writen letter looks like in it lol...id have to admitt i would be lost without my comp but my cell i could do without lol.....and if things ever changed and we had to go back old school id be ok with it lol
MidwestMom - I finally changed my user name so if you could change it on the calendar I would appreciate it. From Sam's mom to Nan
Got it changed!  How are you doing?  I haven't seen where you've received your box yet or did I miss that?  It is nice seeing you on the Boot Camp page.  :)  Once you have your PIR info and a site is formed for that, you'll find out that you'll spend a lot of time on that because everyone there will be together at GL.  And, you'll have to join your ship/div group so you can share the annoyance of silence and the joy of letters and calls.  Soon you'll get that letter!!!
