Oh, that was beautiful to wake up to and read... that he said those words. So happy for you.

thx monkeymind....lol how are u doing today/ just remember we did a great job raising them

I've been "offline" for a few days and I must say I feel better already just reading some of the posts. I haven't cried this much since the first day I was on this website. Good and Bad! :) Welcome to the new moms and prayers for the ones leaving this week.

Please consider yourselves warned...this is a loooong post! :)

This has been a really long week for me. Life always knows when you are full and over-flowing and it just never stops coming at you. This has been one of those weeks...one thing after another after another. I guess in a way it is a good thing because I haven't been able to dwell on my son leaving. But now I'm crying even more because of all the other stresses and I feel like I've been cheated out of some memory making time with my son.

One of the added stresses is my son's new girlfriend...yes, I said NEW. He has wanted to date this girl for the past 4 years and they never really could get it together. Now that he is leaving, she has decided he is worth her time. I'm super frustrated! Why now? He's leaving in a week (they have been seeing each other for 3 weeks now). And to make things worse, she has a baby. My son is a pushover for kids and this girl. He has been her friend through thick and thin. But now they are officially a couple. She even gave HIM a promise ring (It looks like a wedding ring) so he will know that she is serious and promises to stay true to him while he is away. I wish I could believe her but her track record is not very good! And he wants her to go to MEPS with us and then to his PIR. Needless to say...I've been praying alot. I've been trying to be open and positive, but it is so hard. I've had to get onto my husband and my other son to be nicer to her. They both feel like she is using him. I told them that this was his life and his choice and we need to support him no matter what. She could be his wife someday and we are treating her like a criminal! So our mind sets have changed but let me tell you, it is very hard!

Okay, I should have known better than to get started! Sorry, I just can't vent to any of my boys, especially when I'm crying! I think it scares them! LOL!

We had our 7day/last DEP meeting yesterday. The new recruiter is not the sharpest tool in the shed. But he made me feel better about some stuff. If he can make it through BC I know my son can! LOL! He also answered alot of questions about the leaving process. Some of it I already knew because of this website! :) I was really impressed with how my son was speaking and answering his questions. I almost felt like he was more mature than the recruiter! I was afraid my son might be thinking about backing out because of the girl but he is holding his own! He has a plan and you can tell he is serious about it! I just kept looking at him and thinking that it was his body but who was speaking for him! LOL!

We still aren't finished with his room. Maybe by tomorrow!  How do they accumulate so much stuff??

I keep telling myself that we only have 6 more days to enjoy him! And it's not very comforting! Just breathing deep, putting one foot in front of the other and praying, praying, praying! I know God's going to take care of us!

Our church will be praying over him on Sunday morning. He knows they only do that when it is something BIG! I thinks he's probably as nerveous about that as he is about leaving!

I apologize for how long this is. I feel so much better. Sometimes I wonder if I should even post these comments or just delete them. I just hope that some other mom will get something out of my experience. And I hope I'm not tramatizing anyone! LOL!

God Bless and I'll pray that anyone reading this will have a good day!

hey jvptxmom....feel free to vent anytime i was tryin to set my son up with a few nice girls i know and he was like u are only tryin to get me to change my mind b4 i leave so NO was his answer lol so i know how you feel i did everything but grab him around the leg and permentally attach myself to him lol but the 3 times he called he sounded so happy and excited (as i have said b4) lol hate repeating myself butttt when i heard the excitment and happiness in his voice was happy tears yes i miss him like crazy and he has only been gone from home 48 hrs now but knowing he made this choice for his life i fully support him all the way...i feel for you and your situation but have faith in your son and i applaud you for giving his new girlfriend the benefit of a doubt .....trust in him when it comes to her until; she gives you a reason not to lol then go crazy mom on her lol but for your and his sake i hope all works out ...good luck you are in my thoughts and prayers
jvptxmom - this is why we are all here.  Feel free to vent all you want. Many of us, I'm sure, have had similar situations in the past.  One thing I have learned over the years is to stay out of their relationships.  You either get way too attached to the girl and then she's gone or he resents that you have made it clear that you don't approve and never tells you anything, then she's gone.  She may turn out to be the love of his life and the best thing that ever happened to him or eventually she will be gone.  He'll figure it out.  He has so much ahead of him and all he will need from you is support in whatever happens. Look at it like this - if he feels attached to her when he leaves then you won't have to worry about what I call "The Officer and a Gentlemen Syndrome", that movie takes on a whole different meaning when your son is going into the Navy, lol. My son cringed every time I lectured him about that movie before he left. It will all work out.
so right nan but i do love that movie makes me cry everytime lol
I love it too - just use it to scare my son

Thank you everyone. I feel better just writing everything out. She is a pretty good girl except for the a few errors in judgement that she made over the last year. But I think she learned some things. It's kinda hard not to grow up when you have a baby. And I would rather he have the long distance relationship than to experience what Nan called "The Officer and a Gentlemen Syndrome"! LOL!

We are good about where things are right now. He's working hard to get his stuff done so he can spend the weekend with her and his friends. She won't be able to go with us to MEPS after all so he wants to spend as much time with her as possible.

Thanks again for listening to my rant!

anytime i babble alot on here lol i know ppl get tired but i love everyone they have been so helpful anytime u need im here for you best i can and so glad u are better

Oh so true about the relationships. My son gave his girlfriend a "promise ring" last night at the hotel. His friends brought her down there, we knew nothing of it. They've been together for 1 1/2 years. If we express any concern he gets very defensive and upset so we just embrace it all and support him. We weren't always that way but have learned.

He just swore in this morning around 11am, they had lunch and were told that their flight out is at 8:50 pm. We live close so we're home now, he's sleeping at the airport and we'll all head back up around 5:30. What a smile on that kid's face.

My kids think I purposely make them crazy, but it is only to get them back for making me crazy over the years.  Happy to see our family is totally normal.  Always be nice to the GF--like you say, they could become DIL.  That being said, our SR's have a long road ahead of them and they will meet so many new and interesting people.  If the GF isn't 100% committed to them, she won't stick around for this journey.  It isn't much fun having a guy who can't take you to the movies or out for supper every weekend.

ElleBee - That made my heart break too.  One time when our daughter was little and my hubby left for a 2 month cruise (Navy), she stopped saying his name for about 6 weeks.  When he came back, she had a death grip around his neck and wouldn't let go.  Buy some cheap frames and keep pictures down low where the kids can grab them, see them throughout the day, and know they can pick them up and walk around with them.  Holding something concrete may help them.  My prayers are with you!!
