That's GREAT! If you really want answers to your questions, with your next letter send him a separate sheet with all your questions and room for answers. Here's a sample of what I started today:
Here are some questions for you:
Today is:_______________________________________________________________
What is your “job” in your Division and what does it mean?_______________________
______________________________________________________________________
You haven’t called because:
After Battlestations, who do you plan on calling?
Do you do Captain’s Cup before or after Battlestations?
That's what my son said in his letter too - some are messing up and everyone has to suffer for it.
I wonder about other folks whose SRs say 933 is doing great...
My son said the RDCs hate them because it reflects back on the RDCs when their division messes up. You know what rolls downhill. A mean lesson to learn, but valuable in life. They'll be out of there in 2 weeks - the end is in sight. I'm just gonna keep writing supportive letters.
I just received letters from my SR and so did my mom. He sounded much better than he did in the last one. I suspect that they are not really "messing up" that bad but are being told so as part of their tests. It is a harsh training but, I'm sure they are all doing well. I think the RDCs make it their job to come across as though they hate the SRs under them. This is Boot Camp after all.
In the letter to his grandparents, my SR wrote that they shot 9mm pistols last Friday and that he qualified as an expert!! I guess all that time in Boy Scouts is paying off as he was given a medal to wear on his uniform. : ) He's not sure he wants to make the Navy his career but, at least he is seeing light at the end of the Boot Camp tunnel. Unfortunately, he confirmed that he will be leaving for A school around 1:00 a.m. on July 2nd so we won't have much time to spend with him. We will enjoy every precious minute we have including at the USO on Saturday if we can. Two weeks 'til Meet & Greet. :)
Congrats on the sharp shooter. That's great!
Like you, I'll be at the airport regardless of what hour, just to have the time to visit.
I can't believe it - two weeks from now I'll already be in Great Lakes!
Got my weekly letters yesterday. My SR has been sick with strep and has been training through it. He did go and get meds. So he didn't have a lot to say other than that. I wish he would tell me more of what is going on!! I don't know anything about his A school location because he had said it may change.
Sorry to hear your SR has been sick. In the last letter I got, my SR said he was just getting over a sinus infection. He didn't say if he needed meds. It's good at least you know he was treated for strep. I hear they all get sick because of lowered immunity after vaccinations and congested communal living.
Like I posted earlier, if you want answers to specific questions, make up a questionnaire and give him space to reply (or circle multiple choice answers). Include a stamped, self-addressed return envelope to make it as easy for him as possible.
I know it is frustrating, but he may not yet know his A school location.
I give up on trying to plan ahead and will just go with the Navy flow. Our SRs belong to the Navy now.
My son is going to Pensacola (Corry) which is sort of funny because we live in FL and he pretty much joined the Navy to get OUT of FL (he hates the heat, humidity and blazing sun and claims he loves Chicago in the winter). The Navy is sending him BACK to FL (at least for A School) in the summer, no less. Poor kid.
I guess we can expect to get sick too?
We're heading back on Sunday afternoon. I wanted to have Monday as a day to unpack, wash clothes, cook and get ready for the coming week.
Hey Group- Have you heard from your SR when our battlestation date is? Just curious.
Also, is there anyone on site from Indiana? I've looked at most of our group, and am not seeing anyone from Indiana, but thought I'd post the question out here. My SR and your SR rode up together, bunk together and have became buddies. :) Thought i'd share that.
IndyMom - are you on Facebook? Maybe you can find the other SR's mom there?
