For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Moving to Virginia!!!
Hi, my name's Brooke and my husband just got the news that he'll be sent to Virginia as his first assignment! So, I'm hoping to make some friends there before I get there, lol. I've never been to Virginia, I live in Florida. My husband is still in his school in Pensacola and he says he'll graduate that July 28th and then come home for a couple weeks before we have to leave.
So, here are some of the main things I'd like to know about Virginia and the base:
How is the library there? I love books and I'm a frequent library goer.
How are the colleges and technical schools? I want to get started on a nursing degree, even if it ends up just being online. I also want to take an auto mechanic course. I am not going to the auto shop every time I need an oil change!
How cold does it really get? I'm used to heat!
How much does everyone like Virginia, in general?
I'd really like to make some friends, I hate the thought of going so far from my family and not knowing anyone at all! I also have Facebook, if anyone would like to get to know me more! Search me under my email, yami.brooke@yahoo.com

Wow... Welcome! That's a big move! Well I live in Washington,DC . What part of virginia are you going to be in?? Between the months October and April, it's normally cold... Especially November till March... It's cold... Lol... It snows too. But May through Maybe September is hot and then nice (because falls coming). Most of virginia you have to travel to get to places. They have a lot of water parks and different attractions. The colleges that are good, are George Mason University, Old Dominion University and Marymount University.

my daughter and her husband are going to be based in Portsmouth. They are looking for somewhere to live, so if anyone has any suggestions, please share them! Everyone I have talked to loved Virginia but I have never been there. We are all really interested in anything anyone wishes to share with us. My daughter is also interested in going to school to study physical therapy. She is even willing to start out in a jr college program first. You should make friends with my son in law - he is a mechanic and loves to change oil, etc.! Although he is going to be a corpsman in the Navy!

Hey Yami Brooke! I don't live on any of the bases but I plan on making the big move to the Norfolk base at the beginning of next year. Right now I live in southern virginia on the border of NC. The weather is pretty mild compared to Florida. The winters can get pretty cold and we usually see snow. Recently the summers have been extremely hot, like in the mid 90s! I just graduated from a nursing school in my hometown with my RN and plan on going back to get my Bachelors. ODU has a good nursing program and so does VCU which is located in Richmond, VA. I've heard a lot of great things about the distance learning nursing program that VCU offers. I've also heard that Liberty University offers some of the best military benefits in Virginia, but I'm not familiar with their nursing program or if they offer any of that online. I really like Virginia, but then again I've lived here my whole life so I'm a bit bias. The Norfolk area has a lot to offer and Virginia Beach is the most populated city in Virginia. Wow, i didn't realize I had all these replies, lol. It looks like we will definitely be in Norfolk and I will check out those colleges! I don't know any details, still, and I really dont know what i'm supposed to do and what he's supposed to do. i need to talk to the recruiter down the street, lol.
