My son left the 15th.  He called at 1:00 am to let me know he was there. Just waiting for his box and address.
I know some people cry when they get the box, but I was so excited because it was one step closer to an address and a PIR date!  I washed his clothes right away including his tennis shoes and when they were done, I ran them up to his room to set beside the bag I hope to hand off to him when he flies out for A-school.  BC is rough...so in my mind, anything that marks off one more step of BC is a good thing!  :)  Hang in there ladies!  Take your cameras with you this summer and insert pictures in their letters of people, pets and activities.  It will help you to keep busy and remind them that they are not forgotten (and that there is life outside of BC)!
lol midwestmom i felt the same way i was so excited that i got the box and letter that i looked at it the same way one step closer to hug my son again and look at his face.....

I'm generally a very emotional person but I think you're right, midwest, every milestone is a step toward PIR. I cried only before he left, I do get choked up sometimes but I didn't even cry when the box came today.

I also just received a text from his recruiter with his address. He said he couldn't tell what his PIR date was though. I've heard stories of the address being incorrect but I'm going to go with it for now, I have copies of everything. So he will be Ship 9 div 255. Better text the girlfriend before she bursts.

Now that is an awesome recruiter!  Even if it isn't 100% correct, I think the letters will still find their way to him.  I've seen the addresses written different ways, but my form letter said to do it this way and it has been working fine:

SR LName FName MI

SHIP XX DIV XXX

XXXX SAILOR DR

GREAT LAKES IL 60088-xxxx

MidwestMom is correct. If they gave you the ship and div you can go to bootcamp.mil site and it has the standardize address for each ship and will give you the correct street. My street was different for my son due to ship being different. Hope that helps.
I just called my son's recruiter to get his address because I was jealous because everyone was getting the box or an address! lol  Our sons are on the same ship and division.
Yay! Sending a friend request your way so we can keep compare notes.
Sounds good to me!  I got his box a little while ago.  I was so excited I hugged the Fed Ex man.  Think it shocked him.
Hi ElleBee! Glad you got your box.  How does it come mail or Fed Ex?  I've been making sure I'm home when the mail passes.  I'm doing good, but sure do miss my son.  The other day I came home and saw his car and thought wow Jarek's home.  Then remembered he's gone.  Had a few of those. How are you?
ElleBee--remember at Christmas how the first graders would make chains out of colored construction paper starting in early December or around Thanksgiving and every day you would tear off a chain link...or they made calendars and every day you would stick a sticker on the calendar until Christmas day?  Maybe those of you with small kids can do activities like those to count the days till PIR.  You could have an anchor be the day of PIR.  They seem to work with the small school children impatiently waiting until Christmas.  They have something concrete to look at and the ones a little older can periodically count the days left until they see daddy.  We have a countdown clock on our PIR date and that helps us mommies!  :)
I got my box a little while ago.  I hugged the Fed Ex man I was so excited.  My time really comes about 5 every day when he would ask what's for dinner.  But like you we are getting used to it.  He is on Ship 9 Div 255.
