I got the letter from my SR today. He talked to his commanding officer and got the okay to get married on PIR weekend, since he requested permission ahead of time. He told me to look up courthouses close to Chicago where we can get in and get out. I know someone has had to go through this experience before and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best place to go.

Goose Creek is definitely one of the easiest school commands to marry at.

Trying to cram it in on Friday afternoon may be a logistical nightmare.  Emily has some very good advice there.

Thanks for the help... I really do like the idea of waiting til south Carolina but I don't really have the money to stay in the hotel for however many weeks it takes for housing to go through, but maybe I can figure out a way. Plus his family was gonna be there PIR weekend and he is set on having his dad at our wedding and his dad won't be able to take time off die to how job and I have to get to sc so I can go to school and find a job. But I called the court house in lake county and I would have to go in front of a judge to see if they would waive the 24 hour rule and I don't know how long that would take. Silly me, I didn't ask... So with the time constraints I may have to wait. :/

You can always do the courthouse wedding and do a "real" wedding later. When his dad and all your family can be there, too. :)
And it wouldn't be weekssss for housing to go through. More like a week at most... really, more realistically it would probably be two or three days if you guys got on top of the paperwork. And maybe your sailor could help out with that cost... Aaron and I always try to split the costs of my visits... I pay for airfare and he pays for hotel.

I know that neither way is really desirable... they both have their pros and cons. You just have to weigh them all and decide which is the better choice.

And Anti M is right. Goose Creek is definitely the easiest to get married at. And they have some of the most relaxed liberty rules. And it's nice because you'll be there for awhile. Plus their housing is really REALLY nice. :) Goose Creek rocks... it just smells pretty bad. Specially during the summer. :P

Thank you so much Emily! It is definitely an option that I will have to discuss with family, and write to my SR about but it sounds like it'd get me there with him just as quickly and it wouldn't be so rushed! I know he was pretty set on doing it that weekend but it seems like it'd be a lil hectic.. and I'd rather enjoy my time with my SR and his family rather then stress about getting married before he is due back on base. I do however wish I could contact someone who knows more info about lake county marriage stuff, because I know his family wants to make sure that it can't somehow be done but the courthouse was not very helpful in knowing much about it, figures. Thank you again... I really do like the idea of doing it in Charleston.

Your welcome. Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to give you all the facts I know. :)

And seriously, if you ever have any questions, please don't be afraid to message me. :)

Welcome to the crazy world of a Nuke significant other! :)

Having been in the Navy myself, it is true your sailor will have a nice paycheck, most of which he has little to spend it on but you.  (even if he has car payments, etc, trust me)
I got that, but the court house is open Saturday, for others who may read this.
Thanks anti m. That kinda helped calm my nerves a bit!! :) I just got a phone call from him and he assured me everything would be just fine, either way we will get married!
It will work out, one way or the other. Just promise to take notes and come back when you are a spouse and go over how you got your license, where, what he had to do, any problems, what it was like t get on page two and your ID, and what getting housing/BAH was like.
You can be a terrific source of information.

Yes, please come back and tell details! I'm not married yet... So we still have that stage to go. All I know is what I read from other's experiences.

He wants to get married in SC on the beach, but having my family there (especially my one grandma) is extremely important. I wouldn't mind a courthouse wedding in SC first and a real wedding later...

But as of now it will just end up whenever we can plan it... Who knows when he's going to be gone on deployment! The end of prototype is coming tooooo quickly for my liking!

I will definitely relay whatever information I have as I experience it.  Just like right now, I know people have gotten married at the GL before.. I know it's been done, because they allow it if you get permission, and I know girls who say they've done it but they don't give any info as to how! I know I am not the only one going down this road, but sometimes I feel like it.  You all have been a great help though.. when he called today I think it made him feel better knowing we had options that were both in our preferred time frame.  So I think we might give GL a try but if we're turned down I will just head to SC the following weekend.  I am so thankful for that phone call today, because I guess every free chance he has he talks to one of his RDC's about it, so he has even given me info.  Thank you! And we would love to get married on the beach, but right now we are going to have to stick with a courthouse wedding and hope that when my family is more financially prepared to put together a big wedding we can have a chance to celebrate.  Time really does fly, you're right!! :)  Emily, how often do you see your boyfriend if you don't live with him?
There are many wedding planners in SC who cater to military couples, so you can certainly have a vow renewal and reception later. Unless you spend all your money on furniture and appliances and a decent mattress.

I have a very practical streak that way, don't mind me.
