I got the call too! Last night the phone rang and 11:59 pm, I answered and the clock changed to 12:00 am!

He sounded a bit nerveous but I think it was because he was trying to hurry and not get in trouble! LOL! I texted his gf to tell her he called and she texted back and said he called her too! Weird because I thought they only got one call! He called me from a payphone even though he had his cell...weird again! I'm thinking maybe he called the gf and then his cell died so he called again but this time to me. I don't know!!! Maybe he's smart like a fox!! LOL!

Same conversation, "I'm here, I sending my stuff in a box, I'll write, I may get to call in 3 weeks."

Now I get to wait for the "box". I can't wait to open THAT! He only spent 3 days in those same clothes! I may have to open it in the garage and let it air out a few days before I bring it into the house! LOL!

I can't wait to get the letter so I will know what division/ship he is in...and his PIR date!

Hopefully I've updated everyone!  If not, post and I'll catch it the next time.  PamB - We usually go with our screen names and try to keep our SR's names off to protect their identity so I used your name.  :)  ElleBee & Halfmyheart - So cool that your husbands are in together, you'll join your PIR groups and ship/div groups together as well, plus hopefully meet in person at the meet and greet!!!  That is awesome!  BTW, sometimes the 900 div take longer to fill because they are performing divs which may be why PIR is a week later than others that arrived the same day to GL.  They're special...but then you knew that already!  :)

I'm not quite sure about it being a week later. If you look on the RTC graduation page last weeks grad divisions were 243-250 and 938.

8/12 will likely be 251-? and 939. Although I've not received the letter, my son is in div 255 and will likely PIR with your husband and they left for bc on the same day. Perhaps it just seems that way because some are graduating 8/5 but left during the same week as ours.

RTC Grad Page

I received my letter today.  Ship 02 Div 939  Yippeee!!   Check out FB RTC page. Div 939 is there. I found my son.

Too funny!  I'm sure his new shipmates will appreciate him.  The good news is that by the time they get to bed, they are all probably too tired to care if anyone snores!  Apparently there are all kinds of jobs in the 900 divisions from holding flags and marching, to singing and playing instruments.  Some just open doors and coordinate people!

Sorry BC is an extra week, but the 900's have practice on top of everything everyone else has to do at BC, so their daily schedule is more packed.  Oh, check the BC pages, but I think he'll start performing at graduations maybe 2-3 weeks before he graduates.  You might be able to spot him in some of their graduation pictures posted on facebook.  He'll be able to tell you when and where by then!  The kids can play Where's Waldo for daddy!

Hey, not to nit pick but my son shipped out the 21st and my name is whatelks67.  lol.  don't wanna get mixed up with anyone else, not that my name is all that common.
I'll get it fixed, but will leave off the numbers because soon we'll be putting ship/div after your name.  I don't think anyone on this site will mix you up with another whatelks!  :)

Got my letter! The address is exactly as my son's recruiter texted. I marveled at the envelope for quite some time. My son has awful handwriting, this was printed, by him, in recruit handwriting...I think I like boot camp already. His note at the bottom was epic ..."hey mom, dad, XXXXX and XXXXX boot camp sucks a lot, food is good, I love everyone, see you in 8 weeks. Oh and I only had 1 min. to write this that is why its so short" in recruit handwriting ( ie legible).  : )

PIR is 8/12 booking at Navy Lodge. We don't care about pools or extras. Knowing our family we will all put on sweats, give him his new laptop (he turns 18 on 8/14) let him skype, text, chat and chill all day. After dealing with high school graduation and all the rushing and commotion to have the grad/farewell party I just want to sit and stare at him all day while he tells us stories.

Hoping letters come today for others as well.

So glad you got your letter.  Mine still hasn't come. Maybe tomorrow.
Monkeymind - I LOVE it!!  When we were at PIR for SR #1 (also just out of HS and 18 yrs old) all he wanted to do was eat at all his favorite restaurants, see a movie, buy a cell phone and take a nap.  I have the most classic picture of him crashed out on the hotel bed - lil sister (aka best friend) 15 yrs old under the blankets, dead asleep and him over the blankets in his Navy shorts and white T-shirt totally crashed out in the most uncomfortable looking position.  Too great!  My hubby is still pissy cause we did not make it to the Cubs games (Maybe this time around) Sounds like our families have much in common.
Now I know i'm impatient, but exactly how long should I expect it to take to get either box or letter?  Cause my son left MEPS on Tuesday and it's Thursday, I told you I was impatient, I'm aware of  my failings- but I was following the FedEx truck into our Sub-division and was sorely disappointed when he didn't turn on to my cul-de-sac.  Also, what are the "ship # and div. #" that I see?  I'm pretty new to this Navy thing(all my family were Marines til my son) but anyway, I'm pretty sure they aren't really "on" ships during BC.......right?

Thank you ElleBee, my son arrived Tue. 21st, so I guess I can hold out until next week, although as I may have mentioned Patience is not one of the virtues that God endowed my with an abundence of, so the weekend for the rest of my family may seem very, very long for them.  My husband was out of town on bus. on Wed and Thurs, with him arriving home late Thurs.  and my 5 year old daughter told him, "mommy crys a lot, cause she's missing, XXXXX."  (Question, is it suggested that we not use names on here, as I've seen where other names have been XXX out-so I did that, too)
