For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I know what you mean - I have a ton of things to do today (including finishing up projects at work). It will feel so good to get on that plane tomorrow morning. I can't believe how fast these 8 weeks have passed!

So we have airline reservations through Monday - made when they were really cheap and we thought he was staying in Great Lakes and there was a chance we would get to see him all weekend. Now that he is going to San Antonio, he still wasn't sure when he was leaving, but thought it would probably be early Saturday morning. Another mom said her son going to San Antonio thought there was a possibility it would be Sunday. I can change our tickets to leave Sunday pretty cheaply - any thoughts on timing! There is a good flight at 9:30am out of O'Hare, and I know they usually get to the airport (probably Midway) early in the am, but what are the chances of seeing him at the airport and then making a 9:30 flight? There is one later in the day - but I need to decide fast so I can get the cheap rate to change! Any advice or thoughts are appreciated. (Anyone else have someone going to San Antonio that gave you more info?)

If I were you, I would wait. This is a weird weekend - it being a holiday and all. I am convinced that the Navy just tells ALL the kids that they're flying out early Saturday morning, and then if they don't, it is a pleasant surprise for everyone (and no one is disappointed if they do fly out Saturday morning).
Consider how would you feel if you switched your flight to Saturday morning and he ends up staying until Sunday or Monday?!?!? You'd be kicking yourself all the way home.
My advice - leave it until you speak with him at PIR. Then, when you find out the TRUE and exact details, change your flight arrangements at that time. Worst case scenario, you'll spend one extra day, but in my opinion, it is SO worth it as "insurance".
I keep hearing over and over that with the Navy, until you see it in writing, it is totally subject to change.
Just my opinion.
BTW: The RTC takes everyone on a bus in the wee hours (to avoid traffic?) regardless of when their flight departs. Therefore, it is possible that your son could sit at the airport for 5-6 hours or more. So, if you leave on a 9:30 am flight, you might have to say goodbye MUCH earlier than you will want.
I split the difference - we return on Sunday (have to be on the road to Milwaukee by Noon). That means if we can be with our son on Saturday, we have the whole day. If he doesn't leave until Monday, we will have at least had a decent chunck of time to visit (and he'll probably be glad to see us go!)
