My boyfriend of a year and a half just left for boot camp at Annapolis today and I am a mess. I cried all night because I'm afraid of whats going to happen.  I guess what I'm really asking is what is the whole navy education really like. He has told me that we can write during boot camp and once that's over well be able to do everything as normal like talk on the phone and web chat, but it seems like he is guessing about this stuff rather than actually knowing the facts.

Does anyone have any advice or experience that they can help me out and relieve my worry?

Annapolis is for officers, there are a few differences than with enlisted boot camp.  You will want to find the OCS groups here on N4M.

There will be letters, and yes, there will be regular communications for the most part.  When he is assigned to a ship or sub, then you can join those groups and find out how it varies.

Well i read the last comment. My husband went to boot camp at Great Lakes so it could be completely different. He was able to write me after the first week of boot camp. They can write every Sunday, and if they aren't completely exhausted they can write at night... my husband did.. but not often. They were allowed to send as many letters as they wanted, but only mailed them out once a week. Once he reached his 4th week of boot camp he was able to send out letters 2 times a week. He called me i think 3 times while he was in boot camp. He got to call me after his first week of being there, so that was really nice! I didn't get to talk to him the last 4 weeks at all on the phone until he passed battle stations and called to tell me he was 'officially a sailor' He just started his A school and he calls and text me several times a day, we chat on the webcam/facebook/yahoo.

It may be differnt in OCS if thats where he is. He may have MORE or LESS freedom. I seriously have no idea. You should search for an OCS group for more support :)

Everything will be okay, you just have to stay strong for him!

I have a question:  I was under the impression that OCS was in Rhode Island....I know there are LOTS of different officer training programs though.  Is Annapolis another one of these?  I thought the Naval Academy was in Annapolis though, is this program boot camp there and then school at the Naval Academy?
I know he is going to Annapolis to be an officer.  Its six weeks of boot camp then school for four years.
