Anybody else out there with this Ship/Division?

Thanks - I appreciate the info.  I did go ahead & change the flights - but got a later flight on Sunday to make sure!  I hope he has until Sunday, and if he gets until Monday, maybe I can find another mom who is staying to give his stuff to him at the airport (or maybe I could rent a locker for it?)  It wouldn't matter so much - but we are leaving the next Saturday for a week vacation, and have lots of animals someone has to take care of (dog, 3 cats, and chickens!!)  And I work, and will have to catch up from this weekend and get ready to leave again. Coming home Sunday night means I can spend time Monday catching up (I work from home, so there is always work to do!)  Can't wait - can't believe we are leaving tomorrow!  My efficiency at work ought to go up 100% - I won't be checking the web sites continuously anymore!  (By the way, we are still planning on Meet & Greet, but my sister has just been able to get flights (she was on the list but we weren't sure she could make it) so I'm not sure how that will impact the timing tomorrow night. Hope to see everyone!)

You're welcome!  Like you, I needed Monday to get ready for the coming week.  Animals sure do tie one down, but I couldn't live without 'em.  I read somewhere about lockers being available, but I seem to remember that they sounded expensive.  If you can arrange for another parent who will be there to bring his stuff, that sounds like the best solution.  I am trying really, really hard to get everything done here at work, but I just can't stay away from N4M.  Worst case scenario, I will come back to the office tonite (after 6 pm mani/pedi) to finish up.  Thank goodness I took the dog to his girlfriend's house this morning where he will stay (very happily) until Sunday night.

I agree with Capricorna's comments.  A friend went through samething last year with her son, on exact same weekind- the 4th.  He was told leaving Saturyday, pretty much up until they got there.  He ended up not leaving till the following week.  Her advice to me all along has been, do not cancel your room until you're there and see him leave.  Although, unlike you, I am fortuante that we are close enough (Indianapolis) to drive.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions!  You ARE lucky to be able to drive.  I have to leave on Sunday regardless of whether or not my Sailor leaves by then - but knowing him, he'll be glad to see us leave and happy to get on with his own life.  I raised him to be independent, and am reaping the rewards... :->

That is interesting - especially since he doesn't officially report to school until the 11th - it could be a possibility!  I assume if he is "stuck" there until Mon or Tues or later, he will have his friends with him!  He said he knows and is friends with most of the guys going with him and in his class, so I am glad he doesn't have to start over!  And it would be a bonus to have all day Saturday with him!.  The surprise would be great, but it sure does put a kink into planning - especially when flying is involved!  We could have driven, but our car has a lot of miles and even though gas prices have come down - not enough to really be worth the wear and tear on us and the car!  We do still have our rooms through Monday - but since our flight has changed we won't pay to change it again!  I know it is the Navy and they have to do what they have to do, but it sure is hard on families - and especially all the expenses associated with traveling to see them. It is all worth it though - to have a Sailor!

It was wonderful to meet you all. We spent Friday in the hotel chilling then Saturday in the airport waiting. He is in California now and loving it, though anything is great compared to Boot Camp.

 

To those of you who took pictures for us please send to [e-mail]. I truly appreciate it. How could anyone forget their memory card on such a special occasion? I can.....  Thanks so much.

Hi Wildmom!!!

I'm so glad to hear your Sailor is in CA and loving it.  You're so right about anything is better than boot camp...  My son is in Pensacola and hasn't slept yet but swears he's used to it...  too funny.

For some strange reason, all the photos taken on Thursday night are mysteriously GONE, so I am hoping that anyone that took photos that evening will also share with me... PLEASE!!! 

What fun that was meeting everyone!!!  I loved it!!!  I hope your leg heals well and that you are on the mend soon.

I am so sorry we missed the Meet and Greet - we ended up stuck in Chicago and didn't get out to the hotel until 10pm!  A week-end of no sleep and still trying to catch up.  We ended up having all day Saturday so that was great. We were up at 12:45 am Sunday morning and drove to Midway and were there when 2 bus loads got in.  He left for San Antonio at 5:20, but we were able to go to the gate before heading back to O'Hare to wait for our plane home!  And he loves San Antonio apparently despite the intense heat.  He said A School stands for Awesome and the rooms were great! Again, I wonder if anything would be after Boot Camp.  It was great to have enough time with him - the stories kept coming out and it was so good to get a better feel for things.

Wildmom- Ryan said your son and him were really good friends - apparently went through a lot together being bunk mates (and suffering for the actions of others together!)  He really enjoyed getting to know him and I am sure won't forget him!

Dear Paula and all the other Sailor's families - I wish I had checked this site out sooner and had realized that this is what it was.....but regrettably I didn't (maybe it was good though...I might have had a diferent expectation and then been disappointed 'waiting' for things to happen a particular way)...

Anyway - I just wanted to say, though I may not have meet any of you or maybe I have meet some of you...Great Lakes was a wonder experience and it was nice to meet those families that we did! We have great kids- It's good to know they are getting settled for school and that we can communicate more freely with them now!

The BEST to all you Navy families - Anyone with kids in FL? My son is with a roommate (buddy) from his DIV, so that's cool!
