I was ready. My daughter was ready. Then this last week things went haywire. She started getting serious nerves. Had a huge family party on Saturday and that seemed to get her back into the right mindset. Took her to the hotel Sunday night and it took a while to let go and wait the night to go to MEPS the next day (today). We were both doing really well at MEPS. She was sworn in and we sat at MEPS for quite a while while the rest of those shipping were sworn in. Finally said the real goodbye (in person anyway). She was ready, I was ready. Told her I was proud of her and that I loved her and then started on the long drive back to Chicago. (Oh, forgot to mention that she left from Ohio). She texted me while we were on the road when she left for the airport, while waiting for the plane, getting on the plane, landing, waiting at the airport. Then when we were finally almost home got a call from her saying that the bus was coming soon and they told her to get any long phone calls finished up because there wouldn't be any once the bus arrived. That went well too. Got home, unpacked and waited for "the call". Got it about an hour ago, now I'm beside myself. She sounded scared and on the verge of tears. I was strong on the phone and reassured her that she was ready and that we loved her. I know that she will be fine, but I am going to be doing nothing but fretting until I get her first letter or her first call so that I can hear from the horse's mouth that she is okay.
as one person said she will be fine she is in GODS hands and at a really safe place stay strong and know we are all here for you .....you and your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers good luck too u
bobbie and ElleBee, thank you both for your prayers. Actually knowing that those first calls sound like that helps. I spoke to a very good friend of hers who is now 3 years in the Navy and she told me exactly how her first few days went and that my daughter would be just fine. Those two were inseperable in high school so I trust her opinion. I also take great stock in the moms here. Living in the Chicago area I hope that the box and letter come faster than most. I cannot wait to get letters off to her.
Talk about fast. Got her box today (she arrived Monday night). No secret notes or anything (was hoping she would write something on the plane and put it in her jeans). But the picture on her papers that was taken before leaving MEPS was my smiling girl. Now just to wait for the letter.

My son left for bc on June 23rd.

Proud Aunt of a SR who Left from NY on 06/27

Welcome to all our new family members!  I hope I've captured you in the calendar.  Whatelks-I had to abbreviate your name a bit more (dropped the s) because it wouldn't leave your div number on the same line.  As you begin getting your form letters, make sure you join your PIR groups.  From that site, you should have discussion groups that you can join or start for your ship/div.  Hopefully you will all continue to check in with this site as well to keep us all updated!

Many of us started in the DEP site, joined the Leavin in June groups, progressed to BC Moms, and then on to our PIR and Ship/Div subgroups!  Just like our DEP/SR's, we are on a journey!  :)  Hang in there...the first week or so is the roughest!  Just keep praying and writing!

:) happy to hear about the letters and boxes coming in....hoping it means mines coming soon!!! :)
love and strength to all today!!!
It will be here soon.  Hopefully he didn't toss everything, but sometimes they do that.  They don't realize that we look forward to a box of stinky clothes.  :)
Well if my SR doesn't get a laugh out of my "Flat SR" idea, everyone else is.  I was able to give our local fire and police depts pretty good laughs today with my requests.  The officer opened the drivers door for me to put my "Flat SR" in and i'm like, "oh, no he's more of a back seat, kinda guy"  which had him laughing all that much more.  Really, all you new moms, pick something like this, or a volunteering thing to do while your SR is at BC. It really fills the time, and I do miss my SR, but i'm not constantly thinking about it, making myself more miserable.  Plus this is one more thing you can write your SR about.
That is awesome!!  My hubby and I went on BC diets and we've done really well. We've even started running twice a week (we're pushing 50), so we've used BC as an incentive to get into shape too (or suffer along with...)  It doesn't matter what you do, but finding an activity or self-improvement goal does help the time go by.  Plus our son can't wait to see his 'new' parents.  And we can't wait till PIR so we can eat pizza!!!  I love the Flat SR idea!  He could have eaten pizza with us and we would have ended BC fat and happy!  :)
My son left June 28...not sure how to add my name to the calender...
