Ship 10 Div 263 PIR 19Aug11

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else's daughter was assigned to Ship 10, Div 263?  My daughter left 6/23 and her PIR date is 19 Aug.  I got the phone call the first night, her box came on Tuesday, and the form letter came on Wednesday.  I have already made my reservations at Navy Lodge.  Still deciding on what we will do that weekend, because I don't know if she would be a grad-n-go.  Her A school is in San Antonio (hospital corpsman).  Would love to hear about how other moms are doing and what everyone is planning for PIR.  My spouse and I don't have much experience with Navy stuff (we are Air Force).   Thanks, Elizabeth

Hey, congrats! Our son left 6/28. His box came today. We are waiting or our letter! He is going to A school in San Antonio for HM.

My son left on the 23rd. I did not recieve my letter yet, so I do not know the ship # or PIR. I wonder if it will also be on Aug 19th. Any ideas?? Thanks

Hi Sandi, My son zach left the same day and I got my letter today...ship 10 div 267 and graduating on aug 19...maybe our kids are together

Hi, My son is in Ship 10 Div 263 and his PIR is 19 August. He is in the Nuclear Propulsion. He is our eldest and this is a first time for us and we are worried sick, The only communication we received is the "box" and the form letter. We have already mailed three letters. We can't wait to get a personal letter from him. Any idea when they would be allowed to write letters?

We received his first real letter on 8 July and it broke my heart. It seems bootcamp is much more difficult than he imagined. We are worried sick after reading the letter. Hope things will get better. We have already puchased the flight tickets and I don't know whether he will be able to graduate on 19 August itself. No clue what to do. Since my son is also in the Nuclear Engineering, maybe they will be together. We are just praying and praying for him to get through the bootcamp.

My son's name is Aditya -- we call him Adi. We are from New York.  Immediately after he enlisted, we had asked him to go to a gym and work out.  He is always with his books.  But he did not listen. So boot camp was a real shock to him and we could understand that from his letter.  When he called after his arrival in Great Lakes, he told us that he would call again in approximately three weeks and we are counting days, in fact hours. Please keep my son in your prayers. Best of luck.

My son left the 28th of June...His box arrived on Tuesday with everything in it. Don't understand why they would send back a Bible. I haven't got the letter yet...all I got was the phone call when he got to Chicago at O'Hare. I got alot of texting while he was sitting in Memphis waiting for his plane to Chicago.

Hello Navy moms, Ship 10 Div 263

 

My son is also in this division and will PIR and Aug 19th ..this is my second time around my other son (they are twins) went to boot camp last October. He is now stationed in San Deigo and loves it! just remind you recruits that boot camp is not the Navy! it they can get that through their heads it helps. And stay positive when you communicate with them they need to know that all else in the world is still normal and everyone is ok. My son is Shane and he is probably the smallest guy in the division  lol did any of yours tell you the story of the tornado when they were out marching?  lol my son had the privlage of running back to base with not only his 30lb. bag but another recruits bag also! lol I thought it was a great story. mind you he only weighs 115lbs! anyways we will get through this and so will they.

I am laughing too at the tornado story. I received the second letter today and I am little relieved that this one is much more positive.  My son's story is similar to your son's. He was a little overweight and we had always asked him to join a gym. But he was not very keen. I had the same question when I read about the tough physical routine.  My son had failed in the swim test twice and managed to pass the third time. He is still considered a little overweight and he has written that his drill sergeant is keeping a close watch on what he eats! He also did not manage to pass the physical test -- passing the sit ups and running but failing the push up test. I am going to write to him little later and will mention about your son.

My SR called one hour ago and spoke for 30 minutes. He was supposed to get one hour phone time but some one messed up in his division and the talk time was reduced to 30 minutes.  He is high spirits. He passed his swimming test, but failed in his physical. He was able to pass the running and sit ups, but he was short by seven push ups. He has to retake the test again next week. I asked him about James and he said he knows him. He was talking highly of his fellow sailors. But honestly, it is very tough. He was also feeling little under the weather -- cough and cold. He says everyone is slightly sick. Hope you also must have received your first call.  Best of luck.

Connie, don't worry. Everything will be all right. The only thing we are doing now is praying and praying. And my son told me that the prayers seemed to help since he passed his swim test. He is also homesick and not very happy. However, he is trying to keep a happy face. Best of luck.
