My son just called - had a 60 minute call.  He talked for 30 minuted then I told him to call his girlfriend for the last 30 - she realy needs to talk to him.

He sounded horse and tired but he's OK.

That's all we needed to know.

I got a call too! I was at work and my son called on my cell phone! One of the girls I work with stayed to cover for me so I could talk to him!!!!! He sounded good. He said that he could talk for an hour. I think that your son's girlfriend probably only got to talk for a few minutes. They had to cut it short at 38 minutes. It was just great hearing from him no mattter how long the call was! I'll take anything I can get. He did say that they get mail call everyday! Now I need to just write him more often.
What about you Maine Mom, you get your call too?

denise, I don't know how long she got to talk, she sent me a text and said she got cut off abruptly. She was just happy that she got to speak to himl.  It was just so nice to hear his voice.  My SR also loves the mail.  He said yesterday was "So Cool, I got 7 letters all in one day". Not too many I guess.

I told him to call her first next time just in case she did get cut off, but I Better Get The I'm A Sailor Call!!!!!

I am so glad that my husband stumbled across this website. I always feel so good when I get on here. Even if i'm not the one receiving the phone call or letter. I don't really have to share my phone time. My son doesn't have a girlfriend. : )
Congrats!! On the calls the feeling of finally hearing their voices is amazing. You guys are half way through the time is going to fly from here on. The Sailor call is the best!! They let them talk for a good amount of time. If I remember correctly I think they gave my ex an hour and a half. I dont get calls this time around hehe. But I do get letters.
Yes we got a call too!! He sounded great and it sounds like they are all doing so well!! He said there were only guys in their division and that he had made some really great friends!! I'm sending out another letter and letting him know who I am in contact with on here. I also told him about Trivia Tuesday and how we really want to win so we can see them. He thought that was great!!  28 days!!!
Just got another letter this morning.  He sounds positive and is making plans for the future.  It feel like he's settled in and is ready for whatever is next.  He says he's made some realy good friends.  They all help each other and support each other.  From everything I've read, I think they are going to be very busy the next few weeks.
Ok ladies I know this may sound stupid but I can read your messages in my inbox but am not able to send replies. Still trying to figure out why. I never thought I would be so thankful for a telephone.  :)  We are more than half way there. Time will start to fly!  :)
I know, four weeks from today!!!!!!!!!!! I am somehow much more calm now. I have a feeling of if they can do the first, hardest weeks then they can get throught the rest.
Got another letter today-he wrote it before he called last week so not anything new in the letter but it was great to get it! He has a birthday coming up on the 19th-wish I could make him a cheesecake but it will have to wait!!
A belated cheesecake on 8/5 would be a nice surprise for him.
