Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

How do you plan a wedding when #1 he's stationed overseas and #2 you can't figure out a date?
Hey ladies! Has anyone tried to plan a wedding with their fiancee stationed overseas or on a deployment?
If so how does this work?? we have about a 4 month window of when we think he could get leave but no clue with the government. I don't know how to try to plan for a certain time without knowing for sure. We want it to be in 2012 so probably sometime between April-July is our window. I don't know how to plan or give our guests notice with this so any advice would be helpful =)

Are you looking at traditional venues? Are your guests traveling very far?
You will need to be flexible and creative. Tap family resources, does anyone have a nice place big enough for a ceremony reception? That way you don't have to put money down for a venue when you don't know the date. Do as much the old fashioned way as possible... get the family to potluck cater the reception. Get your friends to create the decor. Do you know a good photographer who'd be willing to step in? You do not need a wedding planner if you go for a homestyle wedding. It can be elegant and beautiful. Decide what you want professionally done (cake? flowers?) and ask your (and his) family what they want to contribute. It can be joyful sharing the planning.
If you're stuck on the TLC style white weddings, you will be sorely disappointed. If you create your own day the best you can, you'll be very fulfilled.
Anf then there's money ... you will need a nest egg to set up your first home with him. Don't blow it all on a wedding, save some fr the marriage.

My hubby and I just did JOP for right now... we are going to do a real wedding or mayb just a real reception if we are too tired lol at a time when we will be more sure of a leave time (his ship will be drydocked for a little) or until he gets out my friend suggested just doing it like a vow renewal on a 5 yr or 10 yr anniversary... I wasnt really too concerned with a wedding in the first place honestly sooo for me it wasnt that big of a deal to not have one.

My family and friends are flexible to a point and it will be a small wedding anyways. haha no definitely not wanting one of those TLC weddings they're just too much.
It's cute and frustrating because I would be ok with a JOP but he says no way, not because he wants a wedding but because he knows that I have wanted one and he wants to give me that since we already sacrifice things due being with someone in the military.
The engagement ended up perfect so I'm sure everything with this will too =)

I am planning one right now lol. We are looking into December 2011 as when he can come home plus I am due in October. My plan is to find out all the information I need and then I will make my decisions for the venue, flowers, etc. One of the biggest questions to ask is how flexible the reception hall or hotel is with military weddings/receptions. I have found that most of the places I talk to are quite flexible. We are aiming for a friday night Catholic wedding and reception. A lot of halls/hotels aren't very busy on Friday nights so we have a better chance of booking one on late notice plus since they aren't as busy sometimes they will offer a lower price for a Friday night rental. Just figure I would throw that out there :) Just message me if you have any questions and I would be happy to help any way I can :)

I had to plan our wedding in 30 days when I knew his leave would be approved after school ended and the deployment was to start. I think like other said you find a families venue so you dont have to lose money, find your dress and do everything you can with out a date. Just let the people around you know that hey theres gonna be a wedding and ill let you know as soon as i know!
