For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Nicole has the right idea....be sure to change your cell voicemail to greet your NEW SAILOR and ask him to call back many times to leave many messages if you will be in flight with phone off.

I just got a call from my SR a few minutes ago and he confirmed that Division 241 has Battlestations on the 26th/27th. He has passed all his tests. He's a grad-and-go. He said most of them are and he will catch his bus to the airport at 2a.m. sat.

I can't believe they ship them out at 2:00 am. Didn't think there were flights at that time. Is it a special flight just for military or a regular commercial flight like a red eye flight? Do you think they leave from Chicago or milwaukee. I know you might not know but I had to ask!!

My said he will be flying out of O'hare. He said I'd their flight is delayed for a while then he get to spend some time with us. I'm praying on that.

Ok, problem. Seems that Christine said that 241 (therefore 242) go on Tues/Wed, not Wed/Thurs. The only way that could happen is if 937 doesn't go that night...otherwise, there are too many divisions going on Tues night. We need to hear confirmation from another mom on 241/242....because we just got word earlier today that 241/242 were going Wed/Thurs. So please be asking!
They don't have their flights leaving out at 2 a.m.....they are bussed from RTC then to wait for flights. Most don't have flights until starting around 5:30 or so...and some not until later in the day. They just have to wait at the airport all day. All are bussed out at once no matter when the flights are.
Although occasionally they have a "charter" flight (which means no family visits at the airport, so you don't want that), most of them fly on domestic flights. They usually leave from Chicago, but it could be Ohare or Midway.

diannep-veteran, if my son has a later flight would they possibly allow him to leave the airport for a short time or does he have to remain there the entire time?

Christine: No one is watching him to make sure he doesn't leave. I know one lady posted that she did this with her sailor. HOWEVER, God forbid he misses his flight...there would be hell to pay. I know of one sailor who was not awakened by the RDCs for his flights (all of his division had left but him so he was there alone). He missed his flight. He had no alarm clock, so what was he to do? ANYWAY, he was in big trouble with his A School, but thankfully it eventually all worked out.
If it were me, I wouldn't take a chance. Chicago traffic can be monstrous and God forbid you hit an accident scene and the traffic backup. Also, your sailor may be instructed NOT to leave the airport...I don't know. This lady put it that she "snuck" her sailor out and took him out sightseeing for a while. I don't think that is a good idea...

I second diannep. The traffic in Chicago is absolutely horrid. Would not be fun to get stuck in that, and believe me, i've been backed up for hours before. Chicago is bipolar. Sometimes it's SUPER busy, sometimes it's quick and easy, only problem is, you never can tell!

Oh no, I would never want my son to break any rules. Being from Chicago myself, I understand how wicked the traffic can be. I really don't mind spending the day at the airport because every moment I get with him is precious. I'll make sure to bring my laptop and cellphone so he can contact people. I'm so excited.
