So happy that I found this forum...just wish I would have found it much sooner...as I type this, our Midshipman daughter is at Cortramid East.  She flies out to day for Kings Bay, GA...as the first rotation for the sub week.  She is very excited and looking forward to the 4 - possible 5 - days "underway!"  Since it is a sub and things are classified - we will have no contact with her until she returns, as they can not take their cell phones.  :(

I would love to hear from anyone else who's child is there for the next four weeks.  I know that it will be busy for them, and such an amazing opportunity.

Hi all!!  We were excited to hear from our guy in subs week last night.  It was all thru texts, so i didn't get to find out as much as i would have liked, but he said it was "interesting" and "Pretty sweet"  lol

He was on for about 48 hours & now the other half of the group is on for about the same.

He didn't get seasick from the boat out or the sub, i was glad to hear -- he was our car sick kid when he was little.

have a good day, all!!

Me too.  Love the forum!

Well, we didn't get a text from our daughter since her phone is back in her room at NAS Norfolk - but she did post on her Facebook today, said that she wants to be a submariner!!! And that they were going to go and see Harry Potter this week.  I am thinking that the group she is with surfaced - or she was allowed internet access down under :)  She commented on a few pictures that her brother and sister had posted as well.  She is NOT a huge fan of Facebook - and does not get on too much, so this must have been her only way of communication right now.  Anxious to hear how everything went!!!

Hello Navy Mom's :)   You know...it took me quite a while to get Facebook down pat - and now I am trying to figure out this site..so please bear with me :) Do we not post our names, or our children's names?  I am too late for that!  Pictures? I tried to post a picture of her, but it went to the wrong place!  lol...  I really do love being able to chat and connect with all of you, since we are experiencing the same ride with our wonderful children!

I heard from Em via facbook yesterday - they are stuck in Kings Bay until tomorrow morning!  Seems the plane broke down :( but they are going to make the most of their day today.  She NEVER gets on Facebook much, and when I was NOT on - she left the messages - then I saw that earlier she was on chat and tried to reach me :(

Not sure what this means for their week ahead - now that they will be a day behind.  Anyone else heard from their child...and have news to share?

Glad it is Sunday, so I can check back throughout the day!!! Have a lovely Sunday ~ it is just beautiful here along the Chesapeake Bay...sunny and not too much humidity - and a nice breeze!!

My guy was stuck in Kings Bay due to plane problems, too.  He called tonight to tell us he was gonna board "a ship" in about an hour & would be gone til Friday, probably.

He wanted us to know he was leaving his phone & his laptop behind in Norfolk.  He named at least 3 dif types of ships, but wasn't sure which kind of ship they'd be on.

Em's mama...

i wish i could say the same about the weather here... yesterday our little guy looked at the humidity level on our patio thermometer & it read 100% humidity!!  UGGG  Today i bet it never got below 94%   Did get a great rain today, tho... which we really needed.

Hope you are all well & your MIDN are liking CORTRAMID  :]

Got the same call from our Em - they had enough time to gather more clothes and re-pack then off they went!  No phones again - so we will wait until Friday to hear from her.  She did say that she has spent quite a bit more money than she thought she would...  several trips to the NEX - one being down in Kings Bay, because they didn't bring their civilian clothes and ended up going out more than they thought they would (Harry Potter showing..she was HAPPY!) but it's all good.  We know that during Marine week - they probably won't go anywhere.  She LOVED the subs...thinking that this very well may be her career choice.

Our breezy, beautiful weather was short lived - I am sorry to say.  HOT and HUMID here too now, and a huge thunderstorm is taking place as I type this (on the computer...where I probably should not be!)  Maybe it will cool things down a bit.

Can't wait to hear more on what all of them are doing and what they think of this amazing adventure!

Have a great night!!

Heard from my daughter who just finished Marine week.  They are driving back to Norfolk now!  She had a great time and really learned a lot!

Our daughter who did surface week is leaving right now, for Marine Week ~ so glad your daughter enjoyed it.  Can you share some of the stuff she shared with you?  My daughter said that she has not gotten to talk with anyone that has done that rotation, except that they heard it was HOT and some of the Cadets did not drink enough water...but that was heard from someone who heard it from someone...

She liked surface week - said she got to do some neat things, did not enjoy it nearly as much as she did sub week!  The ship they were on was old, and will be decommissioned next May.  It was warm during sleeping hours. She was thinking she wanted to be a SWO - but has def now changed her mind...I think that the sub program is what she is going to aim for now...it is so great that they get to do a bit of everything, sure does make it a bit easier when the decisions are made before they commission!

I was just happy to hear from her - they went to the local Mall yesterday in Norfolk, on their Liberty and this made her very happy!  She has read 5 books already while there - with so much down time, in between flights from GA and back - and then evenings and such on the ship.

She told me if I dont' hear from anyone during this next week - then all is well!!!  It will be a long week for this mama that's for sure! LOL...

Take care and have a wonderful Sunday!!!

My daughter really did well during Marine week, but she was very happy to be through with it.  She said that they did a lot of new things that she really enjoyed.  She said that she has never sweated so much in her life!!  She didn't like the shower situtation, but enjoyed the barracks.Lights out was early and they were up at 4:30 am each day! I was able to get a short phone call most nights, except when they were sleeping out one night. Her company went to Busch Gardens yesterday, which was a nice way to end the week. We are from Florida, so she is looking forward to Surface week and being on the water.

Just checking to see if there are any new posts :)  Have not heard from our daughter since she left for Marine week - but she told me "no news..is good news" so that means she is still hanging in there!  I was looking at the schedule of events they have them doing - then I looked at a friend of her's facebook photo album, from when she went thru it a few years ago - and I am thinking they are keeping them pretty busy!  Bet she does not get to read much this round....lol.

Almost 3 weeks down and one more to go!  When she flies home - we have her for a week - then back to college she goes on the 13th of August :(   summer went way too fast it seems!

Can't wait to hear about the adventures they are going thru and share with us!  I will check back this weekend!

Our MIDN called briefly a little while ago.  Em'sMama -- he's on marine week too, remember.  He said they have been busy w/ long days & early lights out.  He told me a few things they've done, but none of it was any surprise -- looked at equipment, flew in helo, those fighting stick things, etc.  Then suddenly "i gotta go!! Bye."

He did say he thought they'd be back in Norfolk Friday night so he thought he'd be able to call again sometime this weekend.

take care, all  ...

I love that your son calls and checks in...Em leaves her phone back in Norfolk each time they have went anywhere!!  I think that she still has memories of Leadership Academy, her Jr year of HS...someone brought their phone and it rang - and they all had to do 100 curls and 100 push ups!  LOL...

A friend of mine sent this to me yesterday.... maybe some of you will see some of your amazing children/Middy's in here - pretty neat.
