Hi Gale,

Welcome! How exciting for your son to get in as a Corpsman, I know it's hard to get in there these days :D You must have been so happy to finally get that form letter. Just think...we'll start getting real letters soon too (I hope)! Amy

Hi Amy

I am very proud. I was excited to get the letter. I have been writing daily ever since.

What about your recruit? What is their job?  I am looking forward to the letters too.

My SR is a Nuke. I've been writing (almost daily) and sent off a questionaire that one of the other moms posted that was pretty great. Hopefully he doesn't think it's to crazy and will send it back : ) I am so excited to see him on Sept 1. Are you going to be able to go to graduation?

That is great. A friend of mine's son just got out after 6 years being in the Nukes and found a great job in Pensacola.  Yes, we are going to graduation. We will probably stay at Navy Lodge. I am hoping with the long weekend that we will be able to see him a few days since he is staying at Great Lakes for his A School.  Hope to be able to meet you there. Looking forward to Sept 1st.

can you send me the questionaire
Hi moms of 12/285, we made our reservations on Monday.
Its a little easy for us since we live in St Louis. My son job is machinst mate. Hope to see you all there

Hi Everyone,

My SR is this ship/div  I have received the "THE BOX" and his form letter.  I am writing to him daily and getting the rest of the family to write him too!  He is my only son and I miss him terribly.  I have already made reservations at the Residence Inn through Sunday.  I can always cancel if I don't get to spend much time.  My son is going to Texas for his A School as Master of Arms (MP).  Look forward to learning from all you moms  :)

Welcome Jaymom and Navymom5243. I'm getting so excited about the graduation. I've heard from fellow Navy moms that they change a lot. I hope not too much! I'm totally with you on missing our sons...the thought of never really being able to see them on a daily basis again is awful. I am excited for him, though and the new life he's making for himself.

Jaymom, is he a Nuke machinist mate? That's what my SR will be going to A school for.

Navymom: We made our reservations through Saturday in the hopes we'll get to spend time with our SR too since it's a holiday weekend. We are staying at the Ramada Inn. It's great there are so many places within minutes of the base. I think we're going to drive ourselves to graduation instead of the shuttle so we can get there early : )

Hi mtngrl2014, Thanks for the welcome!   We are flying in on the day before PIR. I already wrote my SR to see if there are any in his group who's parents aren't coming. If there are then I told him they could come hang with us.  You mentioned you were driving to the graduation instead of the shuttle.  We talked about it, my husband and I, and we decided to take the taxi service.  We have heard the traffic is terrible.  I would rather be dropped off and picked up.  I guess I am spoiled. :)  I see that a lot of people are sending stamps.  That is one thing that I haven't done but with my letter tomorrow I will include some stamps for him to write back.  I hope they get to write soon as I keep checking the mail box.

I know, I keep checking the mailbox too. I noticed that some started getting letters the day before yesterday on the PIR 9/1/11 site so hopefully tomorrow : ) I've been wondering how they call and send off letters though. Do they have to buy calling cards and stationary/stamps? I was wondering because they don't get paid for a while do they. Hopefully our SRs had some cash left when they got there if they needed it!

We're driving from Colorado and we're hoping if we leave really early on the morning of the graduation it won't be too bad...fingers crossed. Are you going to the meet and greet the evening before at the Ramada. It just happens to be where we are staying. It should be fun to put some faces to our posts : )

I actually sent a calling card with him that had 750 minutes.  I felt he could share with another if they didn't have one.  I have heard that other moms sent multiple ones so they could share with others but we only sent one. We will try to attend the meet and greet but depends on our flight.  We are flying in from Georgia. I did read on another post that the Navy provides them paper and envelopes.I hope so :)

Hey Moms, I just got on so let see if I can see how all this works.  I too am feeling all the same things as you are.  My son is also in 12/285 and to think that even after this long 8 weeks, my son will not be coming back home is a bit overwhelming.  But I am so proud of him and all the choices he has made this far in his life, I am sure he will be fine.  We too have already made our reservations at Residence Inn thru Monday.  With the holiday weekend, I guess we are keeping our fingers crossed and being very hopeful that we will get to spend some quality time with him.
