Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

So, August moms~ How are you doing?
My son leaves for GL on 8/8 and I am excited, proud, nervous, a bit sad and much more! Lots of emotions! He has been a DEPper since early November, so I should be ready... but not really!
He is in for 6 yrs because he is going to be a nuke. He says he wants to make a career of the Navy. Time wll tell.
I have 4 kids... a married son (lives close by), a daughter 22 (in college and moving out next month ~finally), my DEP son- 18, and my baby~ almost 15 yr old son.
With my daughter and my Navy boy leaving soon I am going to have a near empty nest, after YEARS of having a full, noisy house. I also hate autumn, so I am thinking I need to be VERY busy when that time comes. Life is about changes. I know that, but it sure is bittersweet to let your babies grow up!
So, how are you gals doing?

My son went through some stuff last week, but that's it.
It seems so final... I don't like it and I don't think he does either.
How do you make an 18 yr old do that?

That's a great idea - I know I'll be back in his room after he is gone for sure. One thing that I'm sure to get rid of his baseball trophy's who ever he marries will not want that collection. Actually the league finall stopped giving these dust collectors and gives out TShirts now ;) Boxing his plaques and awards for memories.
And while we are at it, I want to have him pack his stuff that he will want when he graduates BC and will want to have in A school, like his cell phone, computer, games, etc.
As much as I am willing to help him, he doesn't want it now - LOL,maybe because he knows I'll be crying ;)

Anybody have a magic wand and can stop time for just little a bit? I'm just not ready for 8/9. I need a good cleansing cry, but no time for that right now! Seansmom - wonderful about 3rd gen corpsman. My dad was one, and he loved the navy - it was truly his life. My son will be SECF, and is so very excited - ready to go! In fact ,he almost left today! They called on Tuesday and asked if he was ready to go because a slot was open for Thursday, and being the sweet boy he is, he asked if he could get back to them and called us. Good thing he couldn't see my face - but we told him if that is what he wanted to do, then go ahead. Fortunately for me, by the time he called back, somebody else took it. Whew! Not ready for 8/9 but completely unprepared for 7/28!!

My son was scheduled to leave in October, but got reassigned and now leaves 8/9. What a shock to suddenly put all of this in motion. He's so excited that I can't help but be excited too!
Fortunately most of his stuff is at his dad's house so he'll have to deal with it, but we got his 2 parakeets since his stepmom is allergic. It's been a nice addition to our house!
Just a few of the changes we have to look forward to. Thanks to everyone for their comments. It's so nice that we have a place we can all talk together!

My son leaves Aug. 15. He was to leave in Dec,so it's coming fast. He is glad he doesn't have to wait until Dec to go. I am going to miss him, but I know he's looking forward to it, so that helps. I know the whole stomach knotting up though. I have felt that many times. Hope you all treasure the days you have left before they head off to boot camp.

Past45' If your son leave Aug 15. there is a good possiblity that he will be with my son who leave Aug 17. When you get his PIR let me know we can compare and see. Where are you from.

That would be great. as soon as Brandon get his I will let you know as well. The closer to time it gets the more emotional my entire house gets. My husband who never ever takes off work has taken both the 16 and 17 off so we can be with him in St.Louis before he leaves, and I have even cauht him tearing up when we talk about it now. My two girls are having a hard time as well. The oldest is a sophmore in high school and came in the other day crying and said mom what am I gonna do when Bubs is gone. I just hugged her and said write him every day like the rest of us and know that he is doing the right thing. I am an only child so it is hard for me to explain something like this to her. Hug your future sailor for me and you are all in our thoughts and prayers. I will add you to my firends list.

Thanks Dale for starting this discussion. My son leave August 16 and then leaves St.Louis August 17 for boot. I am not handeling this very well. LOL He is my first one to leave and although I am very very proud of him. I have discovered that the closer it gets to leave date the more emotional I am. He has been a DEPPER since December so like other I though I would be ready when the time came NOPE!!! Plus his two younger sisters are now starting to feel the "Oh no brother really is leaving blues". I agree entirely with your statement: "It sure is bittersweet to let you babie grow up!" My husband and I are going to let the girls go with us to drop him off at the recruters office but not for swering in the next day. It is their first day of school and we feal Brandon will have enough emotions to dal with without his sisters being there. Well I gues the next two weeks will be one emotional roller coaster ride but I could not be prouder of him then I am right now.

Hi Brandonsmom~ Yep, lots of us here share your feelings. I am looking at the clock. Next Sunday at this time my son will have been with his recruiter for an hour... off to the hotel and then to GL the next day. We will go down to Dallas and have dinner with him on Sunday night and see him sworn in on Monday.
It all feels surreal. I am melancholy today.
So glad we have navy4Moms. You gals are great and we will get through this together.
I am mostly positive, but can't help but feel some sadness at letting my sweet son go.

Feeling the tug at your heart. I know I will be doing the same...thinking about that next weekend. It sometimes seems so strange, to feel proud and ok one minute but that ache in your soul at the same time. I have a feeling I will spend a lot of time praying. I will be praying for you all as well, as our sons go to GL.
