Bump ...
anyone out there a Navy Nursing student mom???
My daughter is a MIDN @ Auburn and will be a Navy nurse.
Hi Lori!!
Finally, another Nurse's mom :} i'm sure there are others out there... i mean i met a whole bunch of Nursing MIDN last fall at the fall Navy Nursing Symposium in Milwaukee.
My dd is a 1/C MIDN, how bout yours?
Lori -- Sorry, this will probably be long...
The Nurse option MIDN don't go to CORTRAMID & they only go on 2 "cruises," after Fr yr & after Jr yr. [unless things have changed in last couple years]
The 3/C "cruise," after Fr yr, is on a ship somewhere. My dd was on a amphibious ship out of Norfolk w/ her time on ship ending in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A couple of the other 3/C nurse options were somewhere near the Philippines on an air craft carrier. My dd had quite a bit of liberty time & basically 6-10 work days. They were docked at the base much of the time. Her friends, however, were on ship 24/7 & worked 12-15 hour days almost every day. Both had great experiences & learned tons in different ways.
The 1/C "cruise" isn't a cruise. After Jr year the nurse options were sent to a Navy Medical Center for 4 weeks. I don't know for sure, but i believe this is common practice. The 4 1/C nurses at MU all went to the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. They basically worked about a 40 hour week & had the rest of the time as liberty. They each had a "single" at the Navy Lodge out there. They learned a bunch, got to see & experience a bunch & had a bunch of fun lol
We have 2 MIDN, our dd is now a 1/C and our ds is a 3/C. Both are at Marquette University in Wisconsin.
My Daughter is 4/C MIDN at George Washington University and attends CUA for Nursing. She happens to be at orientation this week. Looking forward to seeing her at the ceremony at GWU.
